So this is far worse than Cammalleri's swing and a more pressing issue than Hjalmarsson's dirty hit? Go jump off the Brooklyn Bride, Campbell.

Just caught this myself a few minutes ago on sportscenter.
You know, I try to see the NHL's point behind all their reasoning in every single decision they make, but this one boggles my mind. I understand athletes in pro sports must maintain some degree of professionalism when on the ice and on camera - but was this really a suspensionable offense? Hjalmarrson got 2 games for nearly killing Jason Pominville last night, and Wisniewski gets the same amount for a two second gesture thats been performed in nearly every teen movie made in the past 10 years? A fine, I can understand - but 2 games? Another decision that doesn't make a lick of sense - and pun intended - it just sucks.

This wasn't even a threatening gesture (unless the Wiz was going to make Avery eat some of his cheese wiz after the game). As much as I hated Boynton's, that was at least threatening (throat slash). This one was just funny. If you can't take someone making a gesture like that to you, perhaps you should bunker yourself in your home and never leave.
Anyway, why did he get 2 games and not 1? Boynton only got 1 for his gesture.

How long before the NHL suspends a player for swearing on the ice during play because a fan heard it or the TV mics pick it up?
This is insane, I would think someone getting their throat slashed would be more severs than getting their dick sucked. |

Another day, another bullshyt suspension.
Seriously, they're suspending guys for GESTURES? Meanwhile, Cammalleri and Hjalmarsson get relative slaps on the wrist for injuring players with dirty plays. Effing ridiculous. If it wasn't for Bud Selig, Bettman and his butt-buddy Campbell would be the most inept league officials in pro sports.

So lemme get this straight...
Boynton: "Kneeing" + "throat-slash" gesture= 1 game Cammalleri: Swinging a stick at a guy's face + "baseball swing slash"= 1 game Hjalmarsson: Boarding/charging + guy taken off on a stretcher= 2 games Wisniewski: "Oral sex" gesture= 2 games So when guys get hit from behind and taken off on stretchers, it equates to less than what Wiz did?? Talk about a lack of consistency. So Wiz's suspension is worth two "guys taken off on stretchers." |

Matthew Barnaby on TSN saying he was involved in a similar situation years back in Carolina. He said his gesture was "much worse" than Wiz's. He said a couple from Carolina actually cancelled their season's tickets because of it. He said no cameras picked it up and the league was able to sweep it under the rug so he didn't get in trouble.

This leagues disciplinary measures never cease to amaze me. It was a GESTURE. Fighting is allowed yet taunting someone isn't? If anything, it makes more people wanna tune in for future Rags/Islanders games and earned James Wisniewski a few more thousand fans.
