Islanders Sign Eric Boulton to One-Year Contract Extension

The New York Islanders announced today that forward Eric Boulton has agreed to terms on a one-year contract.

Boulton, 36, appeared in 15 games this season with the Islanders, recording 36 penalty minutes. In 615 career NHL games with the Buffalo Sabres, Atlanta Thrashers, New Jersey Devils and the Islanders, the Halifax, NS, native has 73 points (27 goals, 46 assists) and 1,301 penalty minutes. He also appeared in four Stanley Cup Playoff games, all with the Thrashers.

The New York Rangers selected Boulton in the ninth round, 234th overall, of the 1994 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Boulton, a 6’0, 224-pound forward, has appeared in 133 career American Hockey League games and 171 ECHL games. He made his professional debut in the 1996-97 season after completing a three-year junior career in the Ontario Hockey League, split between the Oshawa Generals and the Sarnia Sting.

YES!!!!!!!!!!

He's probably my favorite tough guy in the league. So glad he's sticking around! I was afraid he might retire, but this is terrific news!

You the man, Seward!

Based on his fight with Orr this season, I'd say he's got a LOT left in the tank and obviously has tons of experience. Can't believe he has lasted this long, I remember 10 years ago, what a waste of space he was. He was awful. he's really turned his career into a good one.

He really never was awful. Boulton was always better then his reputation. Still don't understand where his reputation came from. He just had some bad fights and for a lot time he kind of was seen like a guy that can't fight, but it really never was true.

Isles have Boults, Carkner and Martin locked up for next year. Nice!

the point of gallant was to keep him in bridgeport so no one else could sign him as he was originally on an ahl contract...also i may not be fully correct on the timeline but he injured his shoulder shortly after signing his deal with the isles

Gallant had offers from other NHL teams so the only way to keep him in the organization was for the Isles to offer him an NHL as well. He's been in the system for 3 years now and they have treated him well, thus him staying with the Islanders.

They did the same thing with Haley a few years back. He had other offers but stayed loyal to the Islanders when they tried to keep him in the system.
