Islanders Sign Colin McDonald to Two-Year Contract Extension

The New York Islanders announced today that Colin McDonald has agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension, running through the 2014-15 season.

McDonald, 28, has appeared in 24 games this season with the Islanders, recording 10 points (four goals, six assists) and 25 penalty minutes. The Wethersfield, CT, native also appeared in 35 American Hockey League games this season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, adding 27 points (six goals, 21 assists).

The Edmonton Oilers selected McDonald in the second round (51st overall) of the 2003 NHL Draft. Prior to this season, he’d scored one goal in seven career NHL games with Edmonton and the Pittsburgh Penguins, while also appearing in 306 career AHL games with the Springfield Falcons, Oklahoma City Barons and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

A 6’1, 110-pound forward, McDonald made his professional debut with Springfield in 2007-08 after completing a four-year collegiate career at Providence College.
