Islanders Ink Jeremy Yablonski

The New York Islanders announced today that they have agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way (NHL/AHL) contract with Jeremy Yablonski.

Yablonski, 30, spent his last three seasons with the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League, totaling 17 points (five goals, 12 assists) and 571 penalty minutes in 167 games. The Meadow Lake, SK., native will enter his ninth professional season in 2010-11.

“We are very excited to add Jeremy to our organization,” Islanders General Manger Garth Snow said. “He adds leadership, size and an intimidating toughness factor to our lineup.”

Yablonski, a 6’1, 235 pound winger, has played in 266 career AHL games for the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, Worcester IceCats, Milwaukee Admirals and Binghamton, totaling 24 points (9 goals, 15 assists) and 891 penalty minutes. In 81 career ECHL games with Peoria and Idaho, he totaled 12 points (4 goals, 8 assists) and 404 penalty minutes. Yablonski made his NHL debut with the St. Louis Blues on December 30, 2003 and recorded a fighting major in seven minutes of action.

Good to see Yabo catch on with another team.
Didn't think it would be the Isle but good signing by Snow
none the less. Yabo and Gillies in the same org. is awesome.
What a freakin line that would be with those two crashing the boards
and smashing skulls. Hopefully Yabo gets a look this season on the Isle.

Don't be so sure that he doesn't get called up. The Islanders have a history if calling up tough guys late in the season; Rechlicz Gillies Fritz and Haley to name a few.

It's a two way deal too, which means he will probably see at least 1 preseason game this year.

i guess they got yabo incase anything happens to gillies when he has to deal with boogie. i guess with the other teams getting bigger and tougher, i wouldnt count out yabo-zenon-gillies line. that would be something.

Imagine a Boogie vs. Yabo bout?

My head would explode like Madden thinking about Favre.

Well, Garth has done nothing to address any of the team's other needs, but at least the organization is bulking up on toughness. I'm still hoping Gillies will get the opportunity to be a semi-regular this year, and I realistically wouldn't expect to see much if any of Yablonski even those this is a 2-way contract. But given the team's recent history of calling up tough guys at the end of the year when the season is already essentially over (which may be by December looking at the roster's talent level), maybe we will get to see some of Yablonski on an NHL ice surface.
