Islanders Activate Rick DiPietro Off IR
The New York Islanders announced today that goaltender Rick DiPietro has been removed from injured reserve.
DiPietro, 30, had been sidelined since Dec. 3, 2011, first with a groin strain and then with a sports hernia and knee swelling. The Winthrop, MA, native appeared in eight games last season, posting a 3-2-3 record. The Islanders selected DiPietro with the first overall pick in the 2000 National Hockey League Entry Draft. In 315 career NHL games, he has a 130-133-8-28 (W-L-T-OT) record with a 2.86 goals against average and a .903 save percentage. DiPietro was named an NHL All-Star in 2008 and started in goal for the Eastern Conference. On the international stage, DiPietro has represented the United States at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games, the 2004 World Cup, the 2005 and 2001 World Championships and the 2001, 2000 and 1999 World Junior Championships. |
Lets see them do this in a month between October and April now.

Ugh, can they buy him out now?
I just keep reminding myself that we have two heavies and John Tavares...at least that keeps me from completely hating this team. |
here's the reason for the move

Wow, that's so cynical. Funny too, because his contract can be looked at as one of the causes for the coming lockout.
Methinks the owners are retarded. |
