Islanders Acquire Tim Thomas from Bruins

I disagree. Something like that can totally effect what happens on the ice because it impacts what happens in the dressing room. I can't name names (not because I choose not to, but because I wasn't given specifics) but more than a couple of players had issues with Thomas stemming back a few years. The White House incident just brought those issues back to the forefront. And it gave the media something to constantly bring up and create a distraction. I think a lot of players resented what Thomas did. Now maybe that didn't directly translate into not performing on the ice but to say it had no impact whatsoever would be wrong, IMO. Either way what's done is done. Like I said I will always appreciate what Thomas did for the Bruins and by no means am I questioning or trying to diminish his importance in the Bruins winning the cup. But I did not like his actions last season and I think Bruins fans have every right to be annoyed with him because of that.

Well said. While I agree that his teammates probably despised him after the White House ordeal, I just don't think that translates to the ice. I'll agree to disagree on that front.

It's too bad really, He could have been an unquestioned hero in Boston and one of the most liked athletes...he pissed that away due to some petty bull****, I'm over it and my lasting memory of him will be his leading the Bruins to a cup, however if some fans are still upset...I can respect that too.

Islanders have a lot of goalie options...but if Thomas doesn't report and DiPietro will be hurt again as usual, and Nabokov leaves via free agency they'll again be screwed.

As far as I know, the B's traded Thomas only to free up cap space, now have 8.5 million to spend should they need to add a body. I've read that Thomas wants to play next year, whether or not he's physically able to at 39 is another story.

Sounds like a shrewd move! This Rask guy has played pretty good so far but as you know the playoffs will be the key!
Remember that Ross Brooks always had great numbers in the regular season and the one time they played him in the playoffs against the Rangers, he was smoked out in one period allowing three goals! I'll never forget that game!

Rasks' one playoff performance was the 4 straight losses to Philly debacle. So he's definitely unproven, playoff wise. Looks great so far though. Timmy T obviously put on a clinic in '11, so that would be tough to top. Sad that Thomas went out like this, considering he essentially brought Boston their first Cup in 40+ years. But it is what it is I guess.

I'm not at all worried about Rask. I'm sure he'll prove himself in the playoffs soon enough.

I doubt that Thomas will suit up again in theNHL. He took the year off to patch things up with the wife and kids, so I don't see him risking that again at his age to end his career on Long Island. I think he had a great career against some long odds from GMs and scouts: too small, too chubby, too unconventional. He gave the Bruins a top flight goaltender and there was no way we would have won the Cup without him. Best of luck to him, and now the Bs have some cap room
