Islanders Acquire Tim Thomas from Bruins
The New York Islanders have acquired goaltender Tim Thomas from the Boston Bruins in exchange for a conditional second round pick in the 2014 or 2015 NHL Draft.
Thomas, 38, is a four-time National Hockey League All-Star and a two-time winner of the Vezina Trophy, awarded to the league’s top goaltender. Thomas led the Bruins to the 2011 Stanley Cup Championship, earning the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. “We have acquired an asset for our organization,” Islanders General Manager Garth Snow said. “This acquisition allows us flexibility with our roster moving forward.” Drafted by the Quebec Nordiques in the ninth round (217th overall) of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, Thomas has appeared in 378 NHL games, all with Boston. The Flint, MI, native has compiled a 196-121-45 record with a 2.48 goals against average and a .921 save percentage. Thomas was named to the First NHL All-Star Team in 2008-09 and 2010-11, leading the league both seasons in goals against average and save percentage. Prior to his professional career, Thomas played four collegiate seasons at the University of Vermont. Thomas made his professional debut in 1997-98 and spent the next six seasons playing in the ECHL, the International Hockey League, the American Hockey League and Finland’s SM-Liiga, before signing with the Bruins as a free agent in 2002. Giving up a 2nd round pick just to get up to the cap floor? Good lord... That's some great asset management there, Garth!

They could have at least taken Kaberle. He'd actually play for them. This is a pretty easy case of cap circumvention. For a second rounder??? Bruins make out like bandits here.

Even the Islanders wouldn't give up a second for a guy who never plays right? That's why it is "conditional." Well, of course they would give up a second for a guy who would never play, what am I saying?

Doesn't he have a no trade clause? I heard he had 5 teams on an approved list, but I can't imagine the Islanders were on that list lol.
