Hurricanes Sign Brad Isbister
RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager for the 2006 Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with left wing Brad Isbister on a one-year contract. The deal will pay Isbister $600,000 at the NHL level and $95,000 at the American Hockey League level.
“Brad adds size and depth to our corps of forwards,” said Rutherford. “His NHL experience will be an asset to our organization this season.” Isbister, 29, played in 58 games with the Boston Bruins in 2005-06, notching six goals, adding 17 assists (23 points) and totaling 46 penalty minutes while averaging 13:54 of ice time per game. In eight NHL seasons, the Edmonton, Alb., native has scored 99 goals, earned 107 assists (206 points) and accumulated 563 penalty minutes in 467 regular-season games with Phoenix, the New York Islanders, Edmonton and Boston. The Winnipeg Jets selected Isbister (6’ 4”, 231 lbs.) in the third round, 67th overall, in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. |
Good size, some toughness, good signing

the guy has never played a full season, it's going to be interesting to see where he fits on the squad
|
I'm surprised he couldn't get a one way deal from anyone. He isn't a great player by any means, but he has size, will drop the gloves on occasion, and can score in the 25-30 range. Never seems to play a full season for whatever reason though.

What he said, but Isbister is a bit of under-achiever.Saw him some in the A and he looked good.Think he could put up better #s.

Wasn't really aggressive at all with the B's. Seemed to be a really poor man's Mike Knuble, but without the desire and intelligence.

One of the most overrated players in the league IMO...
He will dissapear for weeks on end and play very uninspired hockey... he'll come out the next game and score 2 goals... unpredictable at best... |
Izzy was my favorite player for a brief period with the Islanders. He was this young promising power forward who would always get off to a hot start, get hurt, and then turn into a waste. Even despite his recent struggles, I'm shocked he's on a 2-way contract.

At one point I thought he was better then Shane doan. OOPS. Talk about a guy with all the talent and what happened?
|
This guy is a bum...one of the biggest floaters in the league this side of Bates Battaglia. It will only be a matter of time before Isbister's career as an NHLer is up. Always figured he'd do better in Europe or the minors.
