I hope Carolina will give Trevor the shot he deserves. He's been a warrior in the AHL, hopefully he'll get to showcase his fighting ability in the NHL this year instead of another year in the AHL.

It would be nice to see him get a legit shot in the nhl. Sadly I doubt it will happen but its still nice to see that either way his carrer will keep going and I am sure Albany fans are pretty happy with this decision.

Trevor Gillies

With Tom Rowe being great friends with Carolina GM Jim Rutherford, and his new position as Hurricanes assistant coach, I really feel Gillies might get his chance this season to see some regular season NHL action providing Carolina doesnt go out and sign another free agent tough guy for their big club.

Gillies in my opinion has been the best and most consistent AHL/Minor Pro Enforcer over the last 5 seasons. A guaranteed 115K even if he never plays an NHL game is not a bad deal at all, although I will always feel he and all guys that do that job on a minor pro level are all vastly underpaid.

I dont buy that Gillies should never fight Boogaard again. He was doing quite well in that fight until he got caught. I think he would do just fine in a rematch with Boogey. I dont know Carolina`s preseason schedule, but they would be doing Trevor a great service and it would really be no skin off their backs if they were to suit him up in games where he would potentially face at least one elite NHL Heavyweight and give him the opportunity to show what he is capable of. It all comes down to opportunity and being in the right place at the right time with the right organizational support.

Gillies is just as tough as many enforcers currently in the NHL. This might be his last shot at making the show being that he will turn 30 in January, so all the best to him and hopefully he works his a$$ off this summer and gives it his all. If somehow he doesnt make it and Mirasty re-signs with Columbus, at least we could all look forward to seeing two of the biggest warriors in the AHL just going to war with each other and showing the NHL what they are sadly missing out on.

Even if Brookbank is re-signed it has been said that he is known to come into camp with a bit of a spare tire and out of shape. Might give Gillies the upper hand at stying up. I am a big fan of Brookbank and Tim Conboy, and I don't know alot about Gillies being as he has never been called up. With all three being free agents until Gillies was signed I don't know how the other two will fair in the re-signing stages. I wish all three could stay and be the 4th line, now that would be a line I would buy season tickets to see. Too bad you need centers.

There is no way they will keep all 3. They wont keep both Gillies & Brookbank up together either. You will be happy with Gillies alone. I would easily take him over Brookbank and Conboy. He`s hungrier, more willing, wide open and enjoys the role. I heard Conboy might be signing elsewhere. Wouldnt be surprised if they dont bring Brookbank back either.

Yeah, kind of what I expected and dreaded. I really hate hockey sometimes, when you have to watch some of your favorite players walk away. Hopefully your right though and Gillies will be enough and I do know that he deserves another chance. I also hope that Conboy and Brookbank land somewhere decent as well.
