Hurricanes Assign Riley Nash and Jeremy Welsh to Charlotte (AHL)

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has assigned forwards Riley Nash and Jeremy Welsh to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Nash, 23, ranks tied for sixth among Charlotte skaters with 21 points (7g, 14a) and is tied for second among team forwards with a plus-8 plus/minus rating. The Consort, Alb., native made his NHL debut in 2011-12, and earned one assist in five games with the Hurricanes. Carolina acquired Nash from Edmonton on June 26, 2010, in exchange for a second-round draft pick.

Welsh, 24, is in his first full professional season and has 13 points (6g, 7a) in 37 games for Charlotte. The Bayfield, Ont., native made his NHL debut for the Hurricanes in the team’s final game of the 2011-12 season, skating 16:32 of ice time and totaling four penalty minutes. Prior to turning professional, Welsh completed a three-year collegiate career for Union College of ECAC Hockey with 100 points (53g, 47a) in 119 games.
