Hurricanes Assign Gillies, Conboy, Jensen to Albany
RALEIGH, NC— Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has assigned forwards Joe Jensen and Trevor Gillies as well as defenseman Tim Conboy to the Hurricanes’ top minor-league affiliate, the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League.

The Hurricanes roster now stands at 25 players.

That's too bad. Gillies made it pretty far in camp but just couldn't crack the roster. Hopefully we see him get called up for a few games.

Lots of dissapointing news the past few days. I can't beleive I actually thought the NHL was gonna be any different this season.

Brookbank is still in camp right? He was very active when finally called up last year, and while certainly isn't as good of a fighter as Gillies can at least fill the role in a pretty weak South East. Plus Danny Lac seems to have made the team, can't see Laviolette having too tough of a squad Too bad Conboy didn't stick but I'll be he'll be back up when someone goes down.

Its a shame to see that 'Clever' Trevor Gillies & 'Tiny' Tim Conboy have been cut. But why would the Canes need either of them when they have Big Bad Danny Lacouture and The Brookbank Mountain?

Yeah, with both Brookbank and LaCouture there's no need for Gillies on the team, even though he's the best fighter of them all by far.
Seems like the injury really hurt Conboy this training camp. Hope he's back up soon.

Conboy's problem was his injury and the fact that the canes have about 10 defensemen that could play in the NHL If you count Rodney, Borer, Babchuk, All the rumours about trading one or two defensemen, but I doubt it now.

The management and fans all like Conboy. Hopefully some of our bums will get hurt or traded and open a spot for him.

This is indeed sad news. I thought Gilles would crack the roster but with Danny getting that one year deal i think that was the writing on the wall. It's such a shame to see these guys who are ready and willing to drop them getting demoted.

at least the AHL will be fun to watch, all these tough guys getting sent down or waived

he's in albany already mr cane boy



anyways. no surprise with the moves. lacouture was signed due to walker being gone for 6 weeks with the broken hand.

My sentiments exactly Blouin. Both the AHL and the ECHL should be good this year, since the NHL guys will bump the AHL guys down to the ECHL, making those leagues tougher.
