Hurricanes Agree to Terms with Kevyn Adams

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the Hurricanes have agreed to terms with center Kevyn Adams on a two-year contract.

“Kevyn is a leader and an important player for the Hurricanes,” said Rutherford. “His work ethic and determination set good examples for our team.”

Born in Washington, DC, Adams completed his seventh NHL season and third with the Hurricanes in 2003-04. He was chosen by his teammates as Carolina’s nominee for the King Clancy Trophy and was selected by the North Carolina Chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association as the recipient of its “Good Guy Award” for the second consecutive season. Adams broke the Hurricanes franchise single-season record when he recorded five shorthanded goals and also established career-highs in goals (10) and points (22) in a season, and matched his career-high for assists (12).

Following the official cancellation of the 2004-05 NHL season in February, Adams, 30, played in nine games with Dusseldorf of the German league, scoring one goal and adding two assists (3 points) while accumulating four penalty minutes. Following the conclusion of Dusseldorf’s season, Adams represented the United States at the 2005 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships in Austria.

Adams (6’2”, 195 lbs.) was originally acquired by the Hurricanes along with Bret Hedican and Tomas Malec in exchange for Sandis Ozolinsh and Byron Ritchie on Jan. 16, 2002. Adams was selected out of Miami (Ohio) University in the first round (25th overall) of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins. In 363 career NHL games with Toronto, Columbus, Florida and Carolina, he has totaled 41 goals and 58 assists (91 points) and 243 penalty minutes. He has tallied 21 goals and 24 assists (45 points) and 114 penalty minutes in 183 games with the Hurricanes.

Well not really a pickup but a re-signing. Still we love Kevyn Adams here so we're glad we've got him for a couple of more years. Totally a character guy and he set the team record for shorthanded goals in 03-04 with 5. I'm guessing he'll be one of the alternate captains this year.
