Hurricanes Acquire Anson Carter from Columbus
RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has acquired right wing Anson Carter from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a 2008 fifth-round draft pick.
“Anson is a veteran NHL player who has had some good goal-scoring years in his career,” said Rutherford. “He will help strengthen our forward corps at a much needed time.” Carter, 32, has played in 54 games with Columbus this season, scoring 10 goals and earning 17 assists (27 points), including three goals on the power play. In his 10 professional seasons, the Toronto, Ont., native has registered 201 goals, 219 assists (420 points) and accumulated 225 penalty minutes in 664 regular-season NHL games with Washington, Boston, Edmonton, the New York Rangers, Los Angeles, Vancouver and Columbus. Carter (6’1”, 202 lbs.) posted career highs in 2001-02 with Edmonton with 32 assists and 60 points in 82 games with the Oilers, and posted a career high 33 goals with Vancouver in 2005-06. He signed a one-year contract with Columbus on Sept. 13, 2006, and is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent after this season. To make room for Carter on the team’s 23-man roster, the Hurricanes reassigned left wing Ryan Bayda to Albany of the American Hockey League. Bayda was recalled to Carolina on an emergency basis on Thursday, but did not play in the team’s game against Philadelphia last night. Last edited by Thrillhouse; 02-23-2007 at 02:19 PM. |

Just a place filler who can score a few goals while Cole and Stillman get hurt over and over again. Letowski and LaRose are good players but neither can put the puck in the net. Obviously this is where Carter comes into the picture, and we don't lose anything in exchange for a solution to our own problems. I expect bigger trades in the next few days since we have extra defensmen who can't play well enough to dress. (cough cough Hutchinson)

I know Carter's not what he used to be, and he's actually never been as good as what his reputation may suggest, but a fifth rounder is pretty cheap I think. He's no Doug Weight or Mark Recchi, but it's a decent pickup by Carolina given some of their injury troubles.

They got him for crunch time, clutch. He came through for Canada in a big way.
and for a 5th round? This is a ****ing steal. Carter is not over rated, or under rated. He was on the damn Jackets. Perfect fit for the Canes and their run again. |

We gave you a 2nd round pick for Hutchinson, and now he sucks and we can't send him down, so he just takes up space and is scratched all the time. We also gave you Walser for Flood who never seen the NHL ice, so I say we're even at this point.
