Jimmy Howard's contract extension is two years at $2.25M. Technically, the deal is not quite done, but no problems anticipated..

just saw on the ticker 2 yrs/4.5 mill.

as someone looking outside of the organization, i'm still not sold on Howard, awesome stats, but playing in that system might not show off all his game i don't know.

WOW. That's too much money for a backup. With Osgood retiring after this year, Detroit will be looking for a true number one goaltender. Howard's a good insurance policy, but damn...

2+ million for a slightly above-average goalie, yet there isn't 500K for a scrapper? Screw you, Ken Holland.

How is he only an above average goalie? Look at his record.

Well, Chris Osgood made a career out of that.

He'll be a starter while the development of goalies in the system continues and that is why its only 2 years. Not sure who's available this summer but its possible they would have paid more for a true #1 and a longer contract which, for the reason above, might explain the $$
