Hawks Send Brouwer to Capitals for First Round Pick

The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired the 26th overall selection in the 2011 National Hockey League Entry Draft from the Washington Capitals in exchange for forward Troy Brouwer.

With the addition of the 26th pick, the Blackhawks now have two first-round selections (18, 26), four of the Draft’s first 43 picks (18, 26, 36, 43), and eleven selections overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

26th overall pick in this draft. Seems a little high for a player of Brouwer's caliber but he does bring some intangibles and experience I guess.

agreed this is exactly the type of player the caps could use but for a 1st rounder, that seems kinda crazy to me

I like Brouwer. Gritty guy with lots of playoff experience. He will help the Caps who continue to collapse in the playoffs.

if this would have happened after the Cup win, i would have been pissed, but this last year i soured on Brouwer a bit. he **** the bed for the last half of the season and in the playoffs he had zero points in a series where the Hawks scored 22 goals.

good luck, Brouwer, but thanks for the 1st rounder, Caps.

i should add that i'll miss his physicality though, before Kam rips me apart.

Another forward is not what the Caps need. Defense is what they need, as they don't have anyone resembling a "shutdown" defenseman. That, and Ovechkin needing to understand that he doesn't have to win games by himself in the playoffs.

A lot of the type the term "1st rounder" is overhyped though IMO. This may be one of those scenarios... a 26th overall is a "1st rounder", a 31st overall is a "2nd rounder". But realistically, the value of player you're going to get at that point is very similar. So if Washington felt they could use a player like Brouwer, which I'm sure they could, then good for them.

26th overall though for a guy like brouwer seems steep to me. Him alone doesn't come close to solving their problems. Their built to win now so I guess they felt it was worth it rather then gamble on a prospect

This says to me they have NO ONE in Hershey that could come up this year to help.

My thoughts exactly. I thought this past season would be a breakout year for Troy, but he was almost non-existent. Brouwer is a decent role player, but I too think the Caps overpaid for him. Hopefully the Hawks draft a big body or a defenseman with the pick.

I thought he played real well against the Canucks. He was physical and has decent offensive skills.
the bigger question is why are the Hawks continueing to get rid of guys like this? They are looking softer and softer.

Good role player which is what the Caps need with a departing Laich. Plus GMGM said this draft was "terrible". Got a player he needed.
