Hawks Ink Flaherty, Fahey and Ryan

General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have signed goaltender Wade Flaherty and defensemen Jim Fahey and Prestin Ryan.

Flaherty, 39, played for the Manitoba Moose in the American Hockey League appearing in 32 games and posting a record of 17-9-2 with 2 shutouts, a 2.42 goals against average and a .909 save percentage.

Flaherty was originally selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. He has had NHL experience with the San Jose Sharks, New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Nashville Predators.

In his NHL career, he has appeared in 120 games with a record of 27-56-9 with 5 shutouts and a goals against average of 3.51. He also has appeared in 7 career playoff games posting a record of 2-3 with a 4.93 goals against average.

Jim Fahey, 28, split last season between the New Jersey Devils and Lowell in the American Hockey League. He appeared in 13 games for the Devils last year and had one assist and two penalty minutes. He also played in 28 games for Lowell and had nine assists with 37 penalty minutes.

Fahey was originally drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the 8th round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He played parts of three season for the Sharks. In his NHL career, he has appeared in 92 games scoring one goals to go along with 24 assists for 25 points with 67 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in two playoff games but did not score.

Prestin Ryan, 27, played for the Manitoba Moose in the American Hockey League last season. In 58 games for the Moose, he scored five goals while adding 16 assists for 21 points and 125 penalty minutes.

Ryan was originally signed as a free agent by the Columbus Blue Jackets on April 12, 2004 out of the University of Maine. He played parts of two seasons for Syracuse in the AHL before signing as a free agent with the Vancouver Canucks on August 18, 2005.

He has appeared in one career NHL game for the Vancouver Canucks in the 2005-06 season and had two penalty minutes. He has never appeared in an NHL playoff game.

Looks to have a decent amount of PIM's in the A. Whats the scouting report on him.

He seems to be an in your face defenseman that will try and land the big hit. He's not afraid to drop his gloves. He will add a point here and there. It is unlikely he will crack the Blackhawks lineup.
