Habs Buy Out Georges Laraque

MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens General Manager Pierre Gauthier, announced Tuesday that the Club has bought out the contract of forward Georges Laraque.

Laraque’s contract was valid until the end of the 2010-11 season.

Georges Laraque, 33, played in 28 games with the Canadiens in 2009-10.

He registered three points (1 goal, 2 assists) and 28 penalty minutes. In 61 career regular season games with the Canadiens, Laraque recorded five points (1 goal, 4 assists) and 89 penalty minutes.

I think ESPN reported it was at 4.5 million.

Is that possible? He only had 1 year of a 1.5 million contract left.

Apparently Laraque did say he wants to play again & if he's 100% healthy, why wouldn't someone take a chance with him? There are so many teams that could use him.

I thought that buy-outs for veterans were always two-thirds of the amount remaining on the contract.

that was the total of the whole contract, but not what he is owed. he'll get $1 million from the buy-out

detroit looks for toughness then doesn't use it. this may be a good fit though becaise gerorges doesn't want to fight and the wings mgt doesn't want a fighter. it's a match made in heaven.
