Wisniewski is like Shea Weber. He doesn't fight that often but when does, look out. Wiz doesn't have to carry a team on his back anymore and won't be relied on as being the sole top defenseman in a crappy lineup. I was really surprised that he hasn't landed anywhere for a long stay. If the Habs were smart, they would lock him in for a couple of years.

Solid pickup here for the Habs. The Wiz adds a hard right handed shot, and should provide some much needed muscle on the back-end for the Habs. Hopefully Gauthier will be able to sign him to a deal before he becomes a UFA, but a second and a conditional fifth is a pretty good price for a solid dman who should contribute. Good move.

A lot of Islander fans were beating on Wiz because he wasn't the D-man that Mark Streit was (who he was replacing) But a lot of Islander fans are assholes and don't know what the hell they have. These are the same people who think Jon Sim is "just as good" as Avery at his job and Matt Martin is an enforcer.
My point, this team is garbage and we trade away the one defenseman that was actually good for this team. Jeez, let's do everything we can to make this team worse. Because losing 7-2 to the hated Rags wasn't bad enough. Trade the whole F'ing team! |

I have mixed feelings about this trade, mostly just more sadness of being an Islanders fan.
Wisniewski got off to a red hot start to the season on the scoresheet, and he was actually still tied for the team lead in points. His production did quiet down after the first couple weeks of the season (as did everyone on the roster) up until the last few games, and Wiz has also had his fair share of defensive struggles this season. But as IHL alluded to above, he was thrust into a role he was not equipped to be in. The guy is a solid top 4 defenseman, and with Mark Streit's injury the Islanders immediately threw him into the role of being the "anchor" of the blueline, which truthfully is just above his skill level. Many Islander fans just failed to realize that they were placing unrealistically high expectations on this guy hoping he'd be just as good as Streit at both ends of the rink. Because of his offensive production, I guess he had decent trade value at the moment, and it probably wouldn't have gotten any higher closer to the trade deadline. It's just very upsetting as a fan to see the team trade a guy tied for the team lead in scoring before it's even New Year's for a couple picks. And with Wisniewski traded, who the hell else is now going to effectively become the anchor of the blueline? That situation is only going to get worse, and if we through the PP was weak before, now who the hell is going to play the point? So, it probably wasn't a bad hockey move, just a depressing statement on the current state of affairs. And did he have to go to that pansy-filled club in Montreal? I liked the guy, I can't root for any twat wearing a Habs sweater.

Can't say I'm really sad to see him go. Offensively he was solid and productive, defensively he was abysmal. In that regard he's similar to another guy who played for both these teams, Marc-Andre Bergeron. We're too far gone for a guy like that to do any good really, so at least he'll get a chance on a better team, and we'll give kids like Hamonic some more ice.

James...
James Wisniewski was good with Chicago, the Isles, and I am sure he will do well with Montreal. Now, mayby P.k. Subban's will learn to keep his mouth shut, because Wiz doesn't strike me as a guy that will put up with Subban's antics. Great pick up for montreal...
