I think he was just being civil given that Ranger only has an AHL deal, not wanting to step on toes or open any cans of worms. He'll get an invitation to camp and if he performs well an NHL deal will be his. It seems like he really wants to play at home which is rare for the Leafs

He's been a beast for the Marlies this year and has looked like a man among boys. Def belongs back in the bigs IMO

Former Leafs on the ice included Calgary’s Matt Stajan, Montreal’s Tomas Kaberle, Carolina’s Jay Harrison and Detroit’s Carlo Colaiacovo.

Also skating were Edmonton’s Dave Gagner, New Jersey’s David Clarkson, Montreal’s Rene Bourque and Canadiens free agent Chris Campoli.

Leafs on the ice included captain Dion Phaneuf, Joffrey Lupul, Mike Komisarek, Clark McArthur, Colton Orr, James Reimer, Phil Kessel, John-Michael Liles, Matthew Lombardi and Tim Connolly.

Meanwhile, the Toronto Marlies have recalled forwards Andrew Crescenzi and Jamie Devane as well as goalie Mark Owuya from their respective ECHL teams for Tuesday night’s AHL game in Hamilton. The club also signed defenceman Ryan Grimshaw to a tryout.
