A while back during the lock out I heard. Roberto luongo was getting traded to toronto pending the end of the lockout.. Wonder if there anything to that still

If you trust Vancouver sports reporters that scenario has already been mentioned/discussed about two dozen times in the past 12 hours alone. It sounds like there is some validity to it but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Detroit Red Wings will soon announce Tomas Holmström's retirement. I guess many goalies will be happy now.

Despite all of the speculation surrounding Ilya Kovalchuk's future, a source close to the veteran sniper told TFP he will be back in New Jersey by the weekend.

There has been plenty of confusion over whether or not Kovalchuk is planning on returning to the NHL.

It has been widely reported that he could stay in the KHL and continue playing for SKA St. Petersburg, but those reports are inaccurate.
Kovalchuk's preference, the source said, was to finish the week with SKA and then return to New Jersey.

SKA lost 3-1 to Ak Bars Kazan today, where Kovalchuk had four shots and 21 minutes and nine seconds of ice time. They have another match against Salavat Yulaev on Thursday, and the team wants him to play.

"He will be in New Jersey for the start of camp," the source told TFP. "Technically, there is no (CBA) yet, so he can keep playing in for SKA until (the CBA) is official."

Kovalchuk had accumulated 18 goals and 22 assists for 40 points in 35 games with SKA.

The NHL and the KHL have an agreement that every player that has a NHL contract can't play in the KHL as soon as the lockout ends. That means all this mentioned guys (OV, Kovy, Visnovsky) can stay in Russia but would not, or should not be allowed to play in the KHL.

The guess is the KHL will honour this agreement because they want the NHL to send the NHL-players to Sotchi next year.
