It's your show today
Unless some news breaks Wednesday, and it is possible the Lightning will announce contract signings by Evgeny Artyukhin (two years, $1.9-million) and/or Ryan Craig (two years at about $1.6-million), I'm turning the blog over to you guys. Honestly, after the past three days, I'm just sick of typing.

Simple questions: What do you think of the changes the Lightning has made, the fact that, as we read today, new ownership so far has committed $61.67-million to player salaries (that's not yearly, obviously, but over the length of all the deals) with bonuses that, if all were met (highly unlikely), the tab for those contracts would hit $72-million.

What has to happen next? Who do you want to see on what lines? Keeping Karri Ramo in the minors for another year, anything. It's your show. Go for it.

Vandy and Glencross to Calgary?

Quote:
The Calgary Flames have raided the roster of their northern rivals. The club today will officially announce the signing of Edmonton Oilers forward Curtis Glencross (see last night's entry for more details), who scored 15 goals in 62 games this past season.

No terms yet, but one unconfirmed report suggested the deal is for three years and $3.2 million.

The Flames are also expected to announce the signing of incumbent defenceman Jim Vandermeer.

Owen Nolan reportedly is close to a two-year deal that would see him finish his career in Calgary.

Free agent forward Mats Sundin has thanked teams which have shown interest in him but says he's not ready to make a decision on his playing future right now.

The 37-year old released the following statement on Wednesday:

"I would like to thank all the teams who have expressed such sincere interest in my services.

"The numerous options provided to me were impressive and I have no doubt that each one presented a unique opportunity for me to finish my career in a terrific hockey environment.

"I spent a great deal of time yesterday reflecting upon the teams who stepped forward and the opportunities that each provided.

"Unfortunately, I am simply not close to being ready to make a decision about resuming my career at this time.

"I wish all the teams the very best and thank them for their interest."

The nine-time All-Star is the leading scorer in Maple Leafs franchise history. Over his 13 seasons in blue and white, Sundin scored 420 goals and 987 points and spent 10 years as team captain.

Sundin had another stellar season for the Maple Leafs, recording a team-best 32 goals and 78 points this past season. Sundin, a two-time second-team NHL All-Star, won a gold medal with Team Sweden at the Torino Olympics in 2006.

In 83 playoff games, Sundin has scored 35 goals and 74 points, with all but four of those points coming in a Leafs uniform.

The Senators have made another pitch to UFA W Shean Donovan. The club has offered the Carleton Place native a two-year deal that he's pondering. He made $975,000 last season, but will have to accept in the range of $600,000 to stay with Ottawa.

League sources say the Senators are among a group of teams interested in UFA Islanders W Miroslav Satan. He made $4.5 million last season, but will likely have to take a pay cut after scoring only 16 goals last season. Satan, who had scored at least 22 goals each season in the 10 years previous to last one, is in that second tier of forwards that's going to have to wait until a day or two to get a deal done. If he wants in the $3.5 million per season range, that could take the Senators out of the running.
