The Florida Panthers are serious about bringing back Roberto Luongo to South Florida, one league source told TFP on Sunday.

Speaking on the basis of anonymity, the source indicated that Luongo is now only willing to waive his no-movement clause to Florida, where he spends his off-seasons.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are also among the teams extremely interested in acquiring Luongo, who has 10-years left on his contract, but unless the veteran netminder changes his mind in the near future, that doesn't appear to be a possibility.

It's believed the Vancouver Canucks are demanding a package that includes center Nick Bjugstad, something the Panthers are not willing to do.

The Canucks are dreaming if they think they are going to get a top prospect in return for Luongo. I still can't believe they turned down an offer including Luke Schenn.

I saw Chilly's favorite reporter Portzline tweeting that Robby Lou is proably going to go to the Blackhawks. They just need to clear some cap space.

As always anything can happen and I'd take just about everything he says with a grain of salt.

Ray Shero was on a local radio station today and said Paul Martin's been part of a lot of calls, and they are just waiting for a trade that makes sense in terms of being a "hockey deal" and not a salary dump.

They touched a bit upon Suter and Parise but he really can't say anything about them, and it made it sound like Steve Sullivan would be back as well.

ASKING PRICE FOR NASH STILL TOO HEAVY

Columbus Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson made little progress over draft weekend towards trading right winger Rick Nash.

While several teams (New York Rangers, San Jose Sharks, Ottawa Senators, Carolina Hurricanes) are said to be pursuing Nash, Howson’s steep asking price – two or three established players plus two top prospects or a prospect and first round pick – has been a sticking point.

The Sharks reportedly offered a package that included forwards Ryane Clowe and Joe Pavelski, defenseman Jason Demers and a first round pick, while the Senators are rumored to have pitched left winger Nick Foligno, one of their promising goalies (Robin Lehner or Ben Bishop) and prospect center Mika Zibanejad.

No word on what the Rangers offer is, though center Brandon Dubinsky is likely a part of it.

Howson, however, is apparently asking for Logan Couture from the Sharks and defenseman Ryan McDonagh plus rookie left winger Chris Kreider from the Rangers; players neither club is willing to give up.

It’s now believed Howson will wait for the opening days of free agency to pass in the hopes that once the best free agent forwards are snapped up, interest in Nash will rise.

The danger with that is if one or two of the teams currently interested in Nash acquires scoring through free agency (Parise, Alexander Semin), interest could actually wane.

It appears that Predators forward Jordin Tootoo will hit the free agent market on July 1.

Tootoo’s agent Kevin Epp first told this to News 1130 in Vancouver and then confirmed it to The Tennessean.

“I think it’s pretty accurate, we talked to Nashville prior to the draft and it sounded like it wasn’t going to be a fit,” Epp said. “Jordin would have loved to stay there and play, but I don’t think the opportunity was going to be there for him.”

Tootoo, 29, has always maintained that he wanted to stay in Nashville, the team that drafted him in 2001, but his role diminished down the stretch of the regular season and in the playoffs. Tootoo played just three games in the postseason and played fewer than 7:32 in three of his final four regular season games. Tootoo had just one assist from March 3 until the end of the regular season. This led Tootoo to vent his frustrations.

“When you get shut down and told you’re not playing, it (expletive) burns,” Tootoo told The Tennessean the day before Nashville’s series clinching victory against the Detroit Red Wings. “After doing everything right, it just (expletive). … I’m (ticked) off because I’m not able to do what I love to do and that’s playing the game.”

The Tootoo issue was odd to say the least. He was having a career year in Nashville only to ride the pine in favor of Yip. New home will work out well for Tootoo.
