I believe there is a strong chance the Penguins will trade Jordan Staal to Carolina this summer. More on this in Sunday's Tribune-Review.

I'm not reporting news that has taken place regarding Staal...to be clear...we aren't to that point...but many variables are in place.

He's not the only one who believes it. It seems the Hurricanes would be willing to move their 1st rd pick in this years draft for Staal. I'd take that return.

I'd bet my life savings Staal will be playing for Carolina next year

Finnish forward hoping to sign deal with Leafs

Quote:
If Leo Komarov has his way, he'll be wearing a Toronto Maple Leafs sweater in the fall.

The 25-year-old Finnish forward finally feels ready to make the jump to the NHL and hopes a deal can be worked out to make it happen once he finishes playing for the host country at the IIHF World Hockey Championship.

“I hope so — as fast as possible,” said Komarov. “If they need me and they give me a good contract then I will go over there.”

The Kabanov thing may not be credible:

Quote:
This comes as news to, well, everyone as Kabanov was in the midst of the Memorial Cup playoffs with Shawinigan and is already inked to an entry-level deal with the Islanders. That deal doesn’t kick in until he starts playing here or in Bridgeport. Arthur Staple hurriedly tracked down Garth Snow, who was puzzled, saying that it was ‘news to me.’ The whole thing ended when Kabanov posted on his Facebook page (again, h/t to the LHH comments) that he’s focused on the Memorial Cup and then going to be in Bridgeport/Uniondale to work with the Islanders.

Vokoun may head to the new Loco squad. Good for him since he had quite a few friends on that team from what the article stated. Too bad he never got to raise the cup, he was a good goalie and class act. Anyone who stayed in Florida for as long as he did has my respect.

Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette talks to Shero about what his plans are for the summer and it doesn’t sound like trades are on his mind at all. Instead, he’d like to keep Crosby, Staal, and Evgeni Malkin (two years left on his deal) around for a while.

“I’d like to do that, if possible,” he said. “We’re looking at hopefully getting extensions with [Crosby and Staal].”

While it is conceivable that Staal, the team’s No. 3 center, might want to play elsewhere so he can fill a more offense-oriented role, he apparently has not said anything of the sort to the Penguins. Asked if any of the top three centers had expressed a desire to move, Shero responded, “Absolutely not.”

Wanting to do it and being able to do it in the salary cap world are two different things, obviously, but Shero is going to have to be shrewd if all three players are going to stay in Pittsburgh. The only guy immune from trade rumors is Crosby as even Malkin’s name was thrown around by TSN’s Darren Dreger as a trade possibility should the Pens want to keep Staal.

Shero would be a fool not to move Staal now. He has Letang, MAF, Sid, and Geno to resign within the coming years. Staal would do much better on another team and really is at the highest point value wise since his rookie year.

If they're going to trade Staal, they have to do it this summer. Waiting any longer will decrease the return they will get, especially if he gets hurt. If he doesn't, then he has to be hedging his bets that the salary cap will either be eliminated in the new CBA, allowing him to keep all of his core talent...or if the cap is kept, that it will significantly increase enough after a short-term decrease for him to be able to keep everyone together. I am not worried about Letang or Fleury because Orpik's contract is up the same year as Letang's, and both Martin and Michalek's contracts will be up the same year as Fleury's.

Well the good news is that the cap is set to rise to $69-70 million and that's about a $6 million increase. However, I do agree with you to some extent you would have to think Morrow and Despres will take over Martin and Michalek's roles and then you have to find someone to take over Orpik's role. Harrington proably won't be ready so they will proably find someone to sign for the short term.

Biggest fear I have is Letang, MAF, Staal, Sid, and Geno asking for $7 million and in Sid and Geno's case $9 million +. They just can't afford all that talent.

Michalek would waive his no-trade clause per @MarkMaddenX. All though the source is a bit questionable he does hit it on the head from time to time.

I still don't know if they would move him though.

michalek doesn't have a full no-trade so him claiming that is kind of a moot point...per capgeek he can only submit an 8 team no-trade list to the pens...that leaves oh 21 other teams that he could be dealt too without his consent.

I saw that earlier, actually, when I was researching my previous post. So once again, Fat Madden doesn't know what the hell he's talking about.

Word out of Columbus is the Boston Bruins are about to make a 'major' offer to the Blue Jackets for Rick Nash.

Rumor is the Bruins will offer David Krecji, Johnny Boychuck and a draft pick/prospect for Nash.

Word is the Blue Jackets are looking for Milan Lucic, Tyler Seguin, Tuukka Rask or Dougie Hamilton in the package.

I'm just guessing, but I wonder if the Bruins are looking to make a move because Nathan Horton is not coming back any time soon?

So Bruins fans, would you give up Krejci, Lucic, Seguin, Rask or Hamilton to get Nash?
