Well thats funny being from Boston they are already talking about signing Rask and him not wanting to be a backup. Trust me Thomas is already gone.

Canes To Make Play For Parise

Quote:
General manager Jim Rutherford has declared that owner Peter Karmanos is willing to spend the money, and a not-too-subtle whispering campaign has identified New Jersey Devils captain Zach Parise as the No. 1 target.

Carolina seems like such a boring place to play.

Luongo isn't going to kick up a fuss or stomp his feet on the way out of town, but he is going to have considerable input into where a trade will move his family. Obviously, his mega-term contract is going to have a negative impact on the number of teams interested, but it's hard to imagine Toronto, Chicago, Tampa Bay and perhaps Florida won't be among them. Cap space for the Canucks will dictate the return, but the true contenders for Luongo will appreciate his value covers the next 3-5 years. After that, the contract and $5.3 million cap hit becomes an anchor. For this reason, Vancouver may have to take a bad contract back...along with a young asset and draft pick likely included.

Saw some rumor floating around today of Jordan Staal going to 2 places. The first one I put little stock in and that was the Oilers and Pens making a trade.

Deal went:

Paul Martin, Jordan Staal, and the Pens 1st rd pick for the Oilers 1st overall pick and 2 roster players (one believe to be Smid).

Since no one reputable has stood behind it I find it to be hogwash.

The other one was from Bob McKenzie and a number of Pittsburgh media who think Staal wants to join his brother Eric in Carolina. I don't see a fit but it seems logical. The Pens proably won't get roster players back anyway. It will be picks and prospects.

The only way I'd let Staal go to Carolina is if Skinner was coming back.

He might be overpaid and suck in the playoffs but at least he'll get you to the playoffs, which is more than the Lightning goalies managed to do for you this year. I think that it's more than reasonable to assume that if Luongo was between the pipes for T-Bay this year, that they would have made the playoffs.

And although I highly doubt that you'll stop watching the Lightning if they were to happen to pick up a player who would make their team better and make the playoffs, as in my opinion a true fan wouldn't do that, I guess to each their own.

Luongo is better than anything that T-Bay has and I don't think that there is any doubt that he'd be highly motivated to prove that he's still a top goalie and it will be much easier to do that on a hockey outpost like Tampa Bay than it is in a hockey hotbed in Canada. The less pressure the better for him and I can't think of too many places where there's less pressure than in Tampa. Just not sure how the cap situation would work as I believe that the Lightning would need to get rid of a bunch of salary if a trade of Luongo were to happen.

the main reason i would hate it is because im originally from chicago so the hawks are the other team i watch religiously. so its my hate for vancouver/luongo that makes me not want him on the lightning or the hawks for that matter.

That just wouldn't happen. We might get Falk back. I'd be happy enough with that return.

I get the hate you have for him but it doesn't deflect the fact that he's still a better goalie than what you have now and he would have gotten your team into the playoffs. Usually when things like that happen you tend to hate the player a little less. But I get what you're saying. I hate Mason Raymond with a passion and it's sad to say but I actually hope he fails just so that they'll get rid of his ***** ass.

Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford did nothing to dispel that talk in speaking with Chip Alexander of the News & Observer and saying he has high hopes of making a big splash this summer.

“What we’re working on now is whatever it takes to get a top player, whether it’s a center or a wing,” Rutherford said. “Eric can play the wing. He has played the wing before and played there in the (2010 Olympics (for Team Canada). He has played very well on the wing.”

Maybe they are trying to get Jordan Staal to play center and Eric would play on the wing.

And they could still add Parise according to Rutherford. I think that is the general idea though, but the Pens just won't get anything back that would really help them at the current time. I think they would need a 3rd team to get involved.
