It seems unethical to publish hearsay before you can actually verify it. I guess the website doesn't care.

Kopitar to be traded?
I think this is garbage and untrue. I have no idea why this is all over the web. But if there is any truth to this, Dean Lombardi should be shot. LA should riot.
************************* "Khabibulin Potential Sen Wednesday, July 16, 2008 Nikolai Khabibulin could be heading to the Nation's capital. The Ottawa Sun is reporting a proposed trade between the Senators, Blackhawks and Kings that would involve the swapping of #1 goalies. Los Angeles would receive goalie Martin Gerber and defenseman Andrej Meszaros from Ottawa. Chicago would add high flying forward Anze Kopitar to the increasingly potent Chicago offence, and the Blackhawks would move goalie Nikolai Khabibulin and one of two youthful blueliners, Brent Seabrook or Cam Barker to Ottawa reports the Sun. It appears that this three way deal would certainly strengthen all parties. The future of the Kings blueline looks promising by adding Meszaros to the likes of Jack Johnson, Matt Greene and 2009 second overall pick Drew Doughty. Meszaros, 22, is a steady defenseman who finished seventh in team scoring last year for the Sens. Martin Gerber will be an unrestricted free agent next summer so GM Bryan Murray is hoping to land a #1 goalie in Khabibulin. The top six forwards for the Blackhawks will be solidified with the addition of Kopitar. He would join Jonathan Toews, Marty Havlat, Patrick Sharp, Andrew Ladd and 2007-08 Rookie of the Year Patrick Kane and intensify an already lethal offensive attack. In his second year, Kopitar led the Kings with 32 goals and 45 assists in 82 games and he'll make $765,000 next year. The Senators would receive an established goalie in Khabibulin, after Ray Emery was bought out and Gerber potentially being shipped off to LA. Khabibulin has 37 career shutouts and has 20+ wins nine times in his career. Barker, 22, and Seabrook, 23, are two highly touted defenseman who could make their mark on the league in the very near future." http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2008/...Potential_Sen/ ************************************************** ***** This can't be true, this would be the stupidest thing I have ever seen.

It'll never happen. The LA Kings should just completely disband if they ever agree to a deal like that.

A hot rumour in NHL circles has Ottawa trading netminder Martin Gerber and defenceman Andrej Meszaros to the Los Angeles Kings, who would send 20-year-old centre Anze Kopitar to the Chicago Blackhawks, who then would send goalie Nikolai Khabibulin and either of young blueliners Brent Seabrook or Cam Barker to the Senators. Take it with a grain of salt. |

Kopitar's name has been removed from most talks and rumors. Looks like if anything will happen it's:
Sens get: Khabibulin,Barker and Sharp Kings get: Gerber, Seabrook and Neil or Vermette Hawks get: Ersberg,Preissing ,O'Sullivan or Frolov and Vermette or Neil

No way is Frolov/O'Sullivan worth that. If Kopitar isn't a part of the deal then this is an idiotic deal for the Hawks. If AK is a part of the deal, then it is stupid for the Kings. The only winner here would be the Sens, and we KNOW that ain't happening I don't see any of this going down.

Chicago is behind the 8-ball cap wise by signing Huet to such a big contract. They're gonna have to give up something to unload Habby's contract. If it was me, I either rape them a bit with a trade like this or let them sit with with 12+ million in salary at goal. If Chicago's GM can't move the Wall so to speak, that Huet signing is gonna backfire on them big time.

Until lakingsfan19 said that his name had been removed from all rumors, that would have been the stupidest deal in LA Kings history, for them to give up a young offensive star like Kopitar.

Tampa looking to add another d-man
From thefourthperiod.com:
The Tampa Bay Lightning are not finished re-shaping the look of their roster, as the club is trying to trade for a defenseman. With already approximately $50 million dedicated to next season's payroll, sources tell TFP the Lightning want to stay around $5 million under the cap by the start of 2008-09 campaign. The Lightning would like to add another defenseman and are speaking with a number of clubs in an attempt to add a reliable rearguard.
