Now I am not one to usually report rumors, as they rarely ever come to fruition and you pass along false information. However, being in this hockey-crazed time of year, I will do so. I have spoken with a close friend of mine who has heard that the Islanders may be looking hard at Anaheim defenseman Mathieu Schneider once again. Anaheim is pushing close to the salary cap for the upcoming season and they feel that Schneider will be expendable with the return of Scott Niedermayer. The proposed deal I am hearing is thus:

To NYI: Mathieu Schneider, ANA 3rd Rd Pick 2009
To ANA: Bruno Gervais, NYI 2nd Rd Pick 2009, NYI 2nd Rd Pick 2010

I agree here, Schneider's the type that u would just rent for a playoff run at this point in his career. If this rumor has truth to it, what are the Isles thinkin?

According to a source--While many league executives believe its Anaheim or retirement for forward Teemu Selanne, that hasn't stopped the Pittsburgh Penguins, St.Louis Blues, Tampa Bay Lightning, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens from inquiring about the star forward. Selanne has not decided whether he will play next season but indications are Ray Shero has made it known to his representatives that Pittsburgh is interested if Selanne decides to field offers from other teams. There have been no contract negotiations between the two sides. Just a inquiry from the Penguins but the possibility is out there. At this moment the Anaheim Ducks have a cap hit of 54.463 million and need to clear salary to have a legitimate chance to sign Selanne. The Ducks are trying to move defenseman Mathieu Schneider. This is why it is important for the Penguins to move Daryl Sydors' salary who is not going to crack the lineup this season unless there are some injuries on the blueline. Moving his salary gives the front office enough cap room to improve the team throughout the summer if needed.
