He has been rumoured to be a target of the Senators for the last 4-5 years.

He might be sick, but that's not why he was scratched.

Frolov considered trade bait?
TheFourthPeriod.com

Alexander Frolov's tenure with the Kings isn't nearing its end, but if he doesn't jump on coach Terry Murray's bus, he could be traded later on this season.
Murray scratched Frolov from Monday night's lineup as part of a message that everyone must be accountable for their actions.

"It's not a player making a physical mistake. It borders on not caring and that's not tolerable," Kings GM Dean Lombardi told the Los Angeles Times.

"And what we'll do as a team and as a franchise is you get on board or you get a surfboard and go to Hawaii. So that's it."

Lombardi and Frolov's agent had spoken briefly about a new contract at the beginning of the year, with talks expected to resume mid-season. While it's uncertain if negotiations will get going during the season, the Times suggests a trade seems likely.

"If we're going to move to another level, we've got to get more out of him," Lombardi said.

If Horton is put on the tradeblock the Pens would be a team interested in him. Possible deal of Kunitz and pick/prospect for Horton.

If I'm the Pens I don't know if I'd make that deal.
Kunitz is a good piece in their puzzle and has good
chemistry with his linemates. Horton is a good player
but why mess with something thats not broken really?
The Pens have a solid club now, keep going and see if
you might need to add something by the deadline.

Exactly my point. I wouldnt bring in a guy signed long term at $4 million a year that hasnt proven his worth as a top 6 guy. I am sure playing for the Panthers dosent help but you got to at least try.

I don't make this deal either. Kunitz is taking some heat because he hasn't scored a goal yet this season and has only 2 in his last 40 games including the playoffs, but everything else he brings to the table cannot be overlooked. He does all of the dirty work in the corners, will take a beating in front of the net, throws a lot of hits and is good on the PK. Yeah, Horton would probably score 30+ goals a year playing with Sid, but from what I've seen, he doesn't bring a whole lot in terms of intangibles, at least not what Kunitz brings.

You should of watched Horton going after Kaleta yesturday it was great. I think i would rather have Horton over Kunitz, Horton could scored close to 40 playing with Sid. Kunitz has 2 goals in the last 40 games playing with Sid, cmon Godard would have more goals then that playing with Sid and getting first line minutes.

rumors from Kings Blogger M. Barry. Starting to wonder about this guy, he agrees with Eklund?

Quote:
Given Murray's comments about goaltender Erik Ersberg yesterday, we were curious if Jon Quick was going to start all 5 games in the next 8 days, which includes two home/road back-to-back games. A heavy load for even the fittest of goaltenders.

"I'm not worried about burning him out at all. He's a young guy, he's big, he's strong, he can play. I would not hesitate to play Quick in all of those games," said Murray.

We asked Ersberg if he had seen Murray's comments yesterday, to which he replied, "Quick has been playing well and I have to earn it and that's pretty much it."

In regards to Frolov, Helene Elliot said to me today, "You caused quite a stir when you mentioned Frolov to Chicago" a few weeks back. I can assure my readers (and Helene), my source was very credible. Admittedly, I got the players allegedly coming back wrong, but the Kings and Hawks did talk and I believe they are talking once again.

As Eklund mentioned, the Frolov sweepstakes could be on, and I tend to believe him. I think Lombardi's patience with him has worn out and if Lombardi want to continue to preach his "team first" concept, then a deal for Frolov is most likely imminent.

PRO'S: 30 goal scorer, 2.9 cap hit, needs a change of scenery
CONS: Takes nights off, UFA

ATLANTA: Frolov is Kovy's linemate in International play. All Kovy has to do is tell Atlanta management he'll sign with them if they sign Frolov to an extension and a deal will be made in 1.2 seconds. Lombardi would love to get Bogosian which a high price to pay.

NASHVILLE: Lombardi admitted in a season ticket holder meeting that he calls Nashville "once a week trying to pry one of their defenseman away". Now may be the time. Nashville can't score, period. With Jason Arnott on the shelf for a time, Frolov could be exactly what they need, especially on their abominable power play. Hmmm, which delicious D-man could he pry away?

TORONTO: There were discussions this morning at practice that long time pals Brian Burke and Lombardi could be looking to swap. Burke knows Frolov from his days in Anaheim and Frolov seems to perform better when he has coaches yelling at him (Andy Murray, Marc Crawford). Ron Wilson is exactly what he needs and Frolov would thrive in Toronto. Garnett Exelby is the type of player Lombardi loves and for some reason he's not working out in Toronto. Burke doesn't have any draft picks left, and with Terry Murrays comments about Erik Ersberg, might there be a goaltender swap as well? Don't forget, Lombardi groomed Toskala and he may need a change of scenery as well. Problem is, would Toronto be satisfied with Erbserg/McDonald?Gustavsson?

NEW JERSEY: This one came out of the blue from Eklund but Lombardi has nothing but the utmost respect for Lamoriello. Stopping short of saying Lombardi would get "jobbed" in a deal, I couldn't even begin to speculate what would be coming back to the Kings.

CHICAGO: They want to win and win now and talks could be re-heated. I'll take Ben Eager and a defenseman.

FLORIDA: Could Nathan Horton need a change of scenery?

MONTREAL: Sure, he could reunite with Cammalleri but what are the Kings getting in return? Mention the Kostitsyn's and I'll laugh like a drunken Englishman. Lombardi doesn't want anything to do with them. Period.

BUFFALO: There were strong indications that there was a deal last season at the deadline that fell through and the dealing of Danny Paille the other day may have indicated clearing some salary space... who knows. Also not sure who would come West.

CAROLINA: Lombardi and Rutherford have been trading partners before. Could the Kings re-acquire Tim Gleason? I'd puke if it was Joe Corvo.

EDMONTON: Again, good trading partners. Too many players to speculate on, but I'm sure Matt Greene and Jarret Stoll could have some input on former mates.

ISLANDERS: With DiPietro seemingly on the way back, does Lombardi pry Biron away plus a Trent Hunter?

More after the game tonight.

The thing is, it's not always about scoring goals. OK, yeah, Kunitz needs to score playing with Sid. I get that. But you can't place a value on everything else he brings to the table. I'm just not convinced Horton would bring that every night despite the goals he would score. You especially need more than just goal scoring if you're going to be successful in the playoffs.

Frolov is being shopped and that they are asking for a 3rd line tough scoring winger and a D-man in return.

Carcillo/Lappy and Carle for Frolov? That would be a sick deal for the Flyers. Blackhawks might be able to offer something similar too.

Horton is undoubtedly the better player between he and Kunitz. Kunitz does fill a pretty important role for the Pens, but Horton on a line with Crosby and Guerin would get 40 goals easy.
