Gaborik Opts for Surgery, Out 10 Weeks

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Wild announced on Friday that Marian Gaborik, slowed all season by lower body injuries, will undergo surgery on his left hip on Monday, Jan. 5. The surgery will address a deficiency in his hip that has caused chronic left groin pain.

The surgeon, Dr. Marc J. Philippon, has apprised the team that a return to play from this surgery can be made in as soon as 10 weeks, with the player able to begin skating after six weeks.

Philippon, who saw Gaborik on Dec. 24, has previously operated on the right hip of Gaborik.

"I'm disappointed he won't be here with us for this point of the season," said Wild General Manager Doug Risebrough, "but this is the choice that Marian has made."

Good riddance..........whats the difference he has not helped the wild at all this season and more importanly to get into the playoffs or when in the playoffs. Use the money to get a good player that plays. In the mean time can the fans trade Risebrough and Lemaire also.

Going into free agency, Gabby bends the Wild over one last time. They can't trade a guy on IR(maybe I'm wrong) and even if they could who in their right mind would take him? No help in the playoffs and who (in free agency) wants to sign a guy long term when he has health issues and you do'nt know how well or when, he can play. You could say its poetic justice for Gabby since he did turn down a big money deal from the Wild earlier. Think he's smart enough to regret it now? Kind of reminds me of Peter Klima, million dollar talent, 2-bit mind.

Yep the wild offered him a 10 year 80 million dollar contract. I just can't think any team will give him a long term deal and his next contract will be loaded with games played incentives. He bent the wild over but I think he bent himself over too.

The Pens were interested in trading for him or possibly going after him in FA, but now...they'd better not even look his way. I also think this is karma kicking him in the groin for turning down that contract extension from the Wild, because this most definitely will drive down his value.

gabster

he is a good player......but he is a whiner and not much of a leader and he doesn't really defend his fellow teammates, besides im starting to like Mikko Koivu as our superstarish guy

Is "hip surgery" code for a hysterectomy? It is a lower body issue. Either way, I hope it takes.
