Forsberg tries again for NHL comeback

Let the flaming begin!

Source

Former Avalanche star Peter Forsberg officially is trying to make another comeback to the NHL.

Wednesday morning, he signed a one-week contract with his longtime Swedish Elite League team, MODO, and will play in today's season-opening game against Frolunda.

The plan is this: Forsberg wants to play three games for MODO, then sign with an NHL team. Under NHL bylaws, he can play in Europe until right before the start of the NHL season, Oct. 1, but if he plays there beyond that date, he will be ineligible to play in the NHL in the regular season.

"I've made six or seven comebacks, so why not make another one? No,seriously, I've been working hard this summer and I have had a major surgery. That's why I want to give it a try," Forsberg told MODO's official web site, www.modohockey.se.

Forsberg last played for the Colorado Avalanche in the 2008 playoffs.

If he's really back to being fully healthy (which I highly doubt), then why not make a comeback. I can see a team giving him a shot, especially for the right price.

Hes about 4 or 5 months early this year. What is he thinking? he doesn't even know what teams are going to be in the playoffs yet.

I think the guy should just stay retired. I can't think of another player in any sport who has made so many comebacks. Anyway, if he's willing to accept a low salary (like $1-$2 million) I'd say it might be worth the risk. Otherwise, it's more likely that it will just create a soap opera around teams and serve as a distraction, and that really wouldn't be worth it.

What's an NHL season without a Peter Forsberg comeback rumor?

On a sidenote, Mats Sundin is carrying Forsberg's hockey bags around.

He's got the right idea....sit out half a season and then get paid a few million to play half a season...

Before he decided he wasnt coming back last season he claimed he was going to go back to the AVS but if he`s just coming back for a big payday like Sundin did the AVS are out of the picture for sure.

I'd guess there is a certain Team Sweden in Detroit that will probably take a look at him.
