Flyers Sign Jim Dowd and Jesse Boulerice

The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have signed 6’2”, 215-pound right wing Jesse Boulerice and 6’1”, 190-pound center Jim Dowd each to a one-year contract, according to club General Manager Paul Holmgren.

“Jim (Dowd) and Jesse (Boulerice) have both had good camps and have earned spots on our roster,” said Holmgren in making the announcement. “Both have intangibles that they bring to the team.”

Boulerice, 29, posted an assist and a team-high 47 penalty minutes in six preseason games for the Flyers. He attended Flyers’ Training Camp on a try-out basis. In 16 regular season games for the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League last season, Boulerice recorded four goals and three assists for seven points and 36 penalty minutes.

In four NHL seasons with the Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes and St. Louis Blues from 2001-02 through 2005-06, Boulerice has recorded eight goals and two assists for 10 points and 304 penalty minutes in 165 career regular season games. He was scoreless in three games with the Flyers during the 2001-02 season. Boulerice was originally drafted by the Flyers in the fifth round (133rd overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.

Dowd, 38, posted an assist in four preseason games for the Flyers. He attended Flyers’ Training Camp on a try-out basis. He recorded four goals and four assists for eight points and 20 penalty minutes in 66 regular season games for the New Jersey Devils last season.

In 655 career regular season games over 15 NHL seasons with New Jersey, Vancouver Canucks, New York Islanders, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens, Chicago Blackhawks and Colorado Avalanche, Dowd has recorded 66 goals and 163 assists for 229 points and 349 penalty minutes. A native of Brick, New Jersey, Dowd was a member of the Devils’ 1995 Stanley Cup Championship team.

Any word on Boulerice's contract? I imagine it's a two-way deal, or did he luck out and was offered the one-way contract? Be great to see him up for a full season, but if he's going to be trapped in the minors most of the season....

Boulrice doesn't shy away from the rough stuff, and with supporting enforcers like cote and eager,

Look for the Flyers to be up there in the charts for team PM's

Both Dowd and Boulerice signed a 1-year deal. I saw it on VS. during the Intermission

Is Cote already signed with the Flyers?Does this mean Boulerice has the job over Cote?

Jimd Dowd...the answer to the flyers prayers. I'd rather see a young guy from the system get the chance...no doubt this is because downie is suspended?

Dowd plays an above average defensive game, but his offensive game is brutal. I rememeber numerous times last year where i was baffled he couldnt bury the puck in the back of the net.

All and all not a bad veteran guy to have around but not gonna impact the team thats fo sure. I don't thin it has anything to do with Downie though.
