Flyers Sign Eminger to One-Year Deal
The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have signed 6’2”, 212-pound defenseman Steve Eminger to a one-year contract, according to General Manager Paul Holmgren.
“Steve is a young two-way defenseman that will fit in nicely with our group,” said Holmgren in making the announcement. “I’m happy to get the deal worked out and excited about being part of the organization,” said Eminger. “I can’t wait for the start of the season to get things going.” Eminger, 24, was acquired, along with a third round pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, from the Washington Capitals in exchange for a first round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft on June 20, 2008. He posted two assists and eight penalty minutes in 20 regular season games for the Capitals this past season. He scored a goal in five playoff games during the 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs. In 212 career regular season games over parts of five NHL seasons with Washington (2002-03 through 2007-08), Eminger has registered six goals and 37 assists for 43 points and 221 penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by the Capitals in the first round (12th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to joining the Capitals organization, Eminger played parts of four seasons with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League, recording 29 goals and 106 assists for 135 points and 273 penalty minutes in 191 regular season games. He was a member of 2003 Memorial Cup Champion Kitchener Rangers and was named to the 2003 Memorial Cup Tournament All-Star Team. He was also named to the OHL Second All-Star Team following both the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons.

u guys....tsk tsk...clueless sometimes...
I said in the draft post... Well he only played about 20 games last season. He was drafted only 4 or 5 years ago. Team is 17-5-2 on the year with him in the lineup. And if you saw him play for Kitchener and WJC, he's shut down, puck moving and mobile. He's smart positionally. He doesn't have amazing speed or the hardest shot. But who knows. With a new start, on a better team, and he's healthy, could be your 2nd line dman for 10 more years. This being said, defense normally take longer to develop, and if your thrown into a ****ty situation, on a ****ty team at the time (pre Ovechkin), your not going to be to turning any heads. He can eat 15-20 minutes a night, and not cost you a lot. Best thing about him, he's steady, and rarely makes mistakes. |

Wasted trade. I for one don't think Eminger will be around for much more than the year he signed for. Still not happy about this one. I know its unfair...but Eminger is already my new whipping boy because of the way he was aquired. You don't give up a 1st round pick for a no-show...sorry..I don't care what people will say...this move was/is brutal.
PS....let's hope CatSmasher is the correct one between us 2.
