Flyers Recall Sbisa and Ross; Reassign Nodl
The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have recalled defenseman Luca Sbisa and forward Jared Ross from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms, according to club general manager Paul Holmgren. In addition, forward Andreas Nodl has been reassigned to the Phantoms.
Sbisa, 19, recorded seven assists and 36 penalty minutes in 39 games this season with the Flyers. He became the fourth youngest Flyer and second youngest defenseman to ever play for the club at 18 years, 255 days, when he suited up against the New York Rangers on October 11, 2008, in the first game of the 2008-09 season. He recorded his first career point, an assist, vs. San Jose on October 22, 2008. He was reassigned to Lethbridge of the Western Hockey League on February 2, 2009, where he recorded four goals and 11 assists for 15 points and 19 penalty minutes in 18 games. He added two goals and one assist in nine playoff games for the Hurricanes. Following the end of Lethbridge’s season, Sbisa was reassigned to the Philadelphia Phantoms on April 9, 2009, where he had a goal and an assist in two games. The Ozieri, Italy native was drafted by the Flyers in the first round (19th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He signed an entry level contract with the club on October 1, 2008. Ross, 26, is scoreless in 10 games with the Flyers this season. In 64 games with the Phantoms this season he has 29 goals and 40 assists for 69 points and 26 penalty minutes. Ross ended the season as the Phantoms’ leader in points and tied for the team lead in goals. His +17 rating also led the team. Ross was named as the Charter Communications Most Valuable Player of this year’s AHL All-Star Game in Worcester, Massachusetts on January 26, recording a goal and six assists for seven points with PlanetUSA. His six assists and seven points are new AHL records. Ross signed as a free agent with the Flyers on April 8, 2008. Nodl, 22, has a goal and three assists for four points and two penalty minutes in 38 games with the Flyers this season. In 39 games with the Phantoms, the Vienna, Austria native has six goals and 14 assists for 20 points and 20 penalty minutes. Nodl was drafted by the Flyers in the second round (39th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. |

Great move by Homer! Sbisa is underated and im sure he will do fine in the playoffs. Nodl blows but Ross ain't the answer either. imo Gratton would be the better choice atleast in the playoffs.

I'm an Avs fan, but Ive always liked following Flyers hockey.
Sbisa will be a very good d man for some time. Enjoy watching him. I wonder how much playing time Carcillo will get?

Cote cant play for sh!t he might be the worst player in the entire NHL, i agree on that. But carcillo actually has some skill he just needs to learn how to use it. And whats wrong with Gratton thought he was 100% hes fighting and playing again atleast.

I would imagine the Pens are going to avoid getting into a physical series. Adams and Satan will probably split time. I agree about Carcillo, the guy has some skills. It just might be his brain that gets Philly into trouble. Then again, their PK might bail them out.

ross is better than gratton. i really dont think we need an enforcer and we should have the best player up in the enforcers place. as far as sbisa, i think he's just an insurance policy incase parent or jones go down again. |

no salary cap in the playoffs, call up whoever you want and just put em as a healthy scratch before the game. He's in there for Parent though, whether he cant play or gets hurt.

We've got Jones with a bum hip and Parent with a bum groin, Sbisa will most likely see plenty of ice time in the playoffs. I still think he's a youngster and really isn't ready, but when youlook at guys like Guenin, Syvret and Fritzsch, then Sbisa is obviousy the best option for a 7th d-man.
Nodl blows, glad to see him go, Ross can fill ina bit better although I think Kalinsky played the best hockey of all the call ups. The Flyers are now geared up, hopefully they stay healthy at the blue line, as we enter the playoffs weak on the back end for the 2nd year in a row.
