Flyers Recall Harry Zolnierczyk and Brandon Manning

The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have recalled 5-11, 180-lb RW Harry Zolnierczyk and 6-1, 195-lb D Brandon Manning from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

Zolnierczyk, 24 (9/1/87), has appeared in 36 games for the Flyers this season. He has recorded three goals and two assists for five points, along with 28 penalty minutes. With the Phantoms, Zolnierczyk has seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points in 25 games.

Manning, 21 (6/4/90), receives his first NHL call-up and will wear #23. In 32 games for the Phantoms, he has four goals and five assists for nine points, along with 75 PIM. He signed with the Flyers as a free agent on November 23, 2010.

Don't have the slightest clue about Manning, just means another d-man is possibly hurt.

We all know Harry Z is down to get beat up.

Sucky part of the whole thing is that if a forward didn't need to be recalled there would have been a great chance of Walker being recalled.

*Update: From Tim Panaccio, Jagr on ice and skating, but says he won't know if he will play until later. Voracek is under a concussion watch so he will be doubtful. All dmen are out skating that played last game, don't know why Manning is up, unless they were not happy about someones minutes like Lilja or there just in case. Looks like Shelly will be dressing tonight.

Walker only has 1 fight in the AHL this year and Manning has 7. If I were a Flyers fan I'd rather see Manning in the NHL.

I read Walker has been out hurt for 40 games. Could be part of his excuse why he's only got one fight. Man that guy sure is injury prone.

I'd rather have Walker, in his limited time with the Flyers this year all he did was try to fight. I know he has been hurt for awhile and recently became healthy.

Good to hear Manning is a willing scrapper, i just don't know his class or for who he would be dressing for tonight.

Or maybe it was because Lilja was smiles, talking with Franzen, Zetterberg, and a few other Red Wings between stopagges, having a grand old time as he struggled to make even the easiest plays.. bench this loser or ship him back to Detroit.. The Flyers don't need him.

The Flyers fans most certainly don't want him. I sure as hell help Manning is in over Lilja

Yes I completely agree. With Sestito out of the lineup the team has fallen back to their soft style of play.

Good ol' Harry Z...
Lightning fast and willing to hit but couldn't fight or score on Helen Keller. Someone turn him onto PEDs please!
Also, he probably couldn't win a fight Helen Keller either

I watched all of Manning's home games last season in Chilliwack & have seen him play countless games. I like him. He's a willing scrapper but he can also play. He was the captain of the Chilliwack Bruins last season. He's not a heavyweight at all but the guy can protect himself when needed.

What would you say his projection is? Can he be an everyday NHL player down the road?

Flyers have plenty of toughness but I do find it funny in the preseason when flyer fans were talking about Walker. He is jsut too old to fight let alone play anymore. His name and fights should really even be a topic. They will bring up young guys who can scrap.

Walker is 31. I wouldn't consider that too old to play or fight.

Anyway.....I'd like to see this Manning kid play, maybe he'll look to impress in his first NHL game. Although the Panthers don't have much to pick from.
