Flyers Add Ruslan Fedotenko and Bruno Gervais

Flyers GM Paul Holmgren announced that the club has signed forward Ruslan Fedotenko and defenseman Bruno Gervais to contracts today.

Fedotenko returns for his second stint with the Flyers after beginning his NHL career with Philadelphia in 2000-01 through the 2001-02 season.

“Ruslan is a good two-way forward that can play either wing and will bring experience and depth to our forward group," said Holmgren.

He is coming off the past two seasons with the New York Rangers, recording nine goals and 20 points in 73 regular season games this past season, while adding another seven points (2G-5A) and a plus-7 rating in 20 Stanley Cup Playoff games during the Rangers run to the Eastern Conference Final.

The Flyers have also added defenseman Bruno Gervais to their blueline.

"Bruno is a right-handed shot defenseman that has over 300 games experience in the league," said Holmgren. "We feel both these players solidify our team.”

Gervais is a 6-1, 200-pound addition to the Flyers defensive core. He posted 13 points (6G-7A) in 50 games for Tampa Bay this past season, his first with the Lightning.

Fedotenko will enter his 12th season in the NHL, having won Stanley Cup Championships with the Tampa Bay Lightning (2004) and Pittsburgh Penguins (2009). He recorded both goals for the Lightning in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final for a 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames in 2004.

He has over 800 regular season games experience, recording 169 goals and 184 assists for 353 points in 816 games, while also appearing in over 100 Stanley Cup Playoff games where he has added 40 points (22G-18A) in 108 postseason contests.

Gervais also has some familiarity with the Flyers, having played in the Atlantic Division for most of his career.

Prior to Tampa Bay, he spent his first six seasons with the New York Islanders, the team that drafted him in 2003 (6th rd - 182nd overall).

Not bad, Gervais as a Carle replacement and Feds as a lesser Jagr replacement. If they go after Nash I fully expect to see Shelley waived and Sestito taking over HW duties.

I think of grinder like Laperriere, Talbot, Asham, guys who hit every shift. Get 10-20 pts a season and get in a couple( 2-3) scraps a year defending teamates... Chippy Guys... Grinders. play the game hard and Get under other teams skin.. Genius.. how do you describe grinders?

you just described ruslan minus the fighting bro. Like i said in the other thread, your idea of toughness and your idea of grinding is nothing but fighters. Ruslan is alot like talbot so your sticking your own foot in your mouth

Ruslan Fedotenko can and does fight a bit, just take a look at his card. He can fight quite well.
