Florida Trades Jordan Leopold to Pittsburgh

SUNRISE, FL – Florida Panthers General Manager Randy Sexton announced today that the club has acquired the Pittsburgh Penguins second round draft pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for D Jordan Leopold. Leopold, 29, was acquired by Florida in exchange for D Jay Bouwmeester and a third round draft pick in the 2009 NHL Entry on June 27, 2009 and he signed a one-year contract with Florida on July 2, 2009.

First of all. Leo's a terrific player," said Sexton following the NHL trade call Monday morning. "He did a great job here. When we chatted this morning, he was very grateful for the opportunity we gave him to get his career back on track and he did.

"From our perspective, we're shifting things around. A second round pick, we think is fair value and good value. I know Pittsburgh's delighted to have him. It's just another step in the process that we started a couple of weeks ago."

I haven't watched Leopold play much this season but i would think a 2nd round pick might be a bit much for him.

Ditto. Should have been a 3rd rounder at best.

Picking up Leopold is a very solid move...He is a good two way d man and had a very good stanley cup with calgary a few years back...I think Shero and Lemieux know what they are doing and penguin fans will see once Leopold arrives.

He's way better than Skoula that's for sure...Seems like he maybe a rental. He's in the last year of his deal.I think Ray has something big up his sleeve..

With Leopold and Moore landing 2nd round picks, I think this is going to be one helluva trade deadline for smart GM's.

Not having a 2nd now I wonder what the Pens would give up if they want to beef up their forwards. No doubt teams will be looking for Tangradi or Caputi now.

You know what.I'd be willing to trade anyone if the deal is right, and help the team repeat. Some won't,but I would..

I agree. There aren't many sellers this year so the sellers are really dealing from a position of strength.
