Flames Sign Stephane Yelle
Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames General Manager and Head Coach Darryl Sutter announced today the signing of centre Stephane Yelle.
Yelle played in his 10th NHL season and his third with the Flames during the 2005-06 campaign posting 18 points (4 goals, 14 assists) and 48 penalty minutes. Yelle is the Flames 2005-06 nominee for the prestigious Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy (awarded to “the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey”). In 714 NHL career regular season games with the Flames and the Colorado Avalanche the native of Ottawa, Ontario has recorded 203 points on 23 goals and 131 assists. Yelle has only missed the playoffs once in his professional and major junior career. In 141 NHL playoff games Yelle has posted 29 points (9 goals, 20 assists) and 78 PIMs. The two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Colorado Avalanche (1996 and 2001) was acquired by the Flames along with Chris Drury on October 1, 2002 in exchange for Dean McAmmond, Derek Morris and Jeff Shantz. Yelle was drafted in the eighth round, 186th overall, by the New Jersey Devils in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. |

This was one of the players in Calgary I would have loved to see in a 'nucks jersey. Too bad, Sutter was smart to lock him back up so quickly. He's a smart hockey player with great defensive skills.

Even though he doesn't post a lot of points, he possess the intangibles that are very rare. Like a previous poster had stated, he is a centermen that every team should have.

I know,brother! I'm a firefighter. I cant even fathom how much space in cubic ft $25 mil takes up? It is ridiculous a contract like that even exists. No player is worth that much. Even jobs like teachers and cops actually make a impact on lives and society. At least some pro teams, like the Eagles put their foot down on ego maniacs-T.O. e.g. on players who think their better than everyone else! Certaintly not worth the money, but a huge amount of baggage with a derelict like that.
