Flames Sign Brad Ference

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter announced today the signing of defenceman Brad Ference.

Ference split the 2005-06 season between San Antonio and Albany of the American Hockey League scoring 22 points (5 goals, 17 assists) and 135 penalty minutes with the two clubs. In 245 NHL career games with the Florida Panthers and Phoenix Coyotes the Calgary native has collected 34 points (4 goals, 30 assists) and 563 penalty minutes.

The 6’3” 218 lbs. rearguard has represented Canada twice at the World Junior Championships (1998 and 1999-Silver Medal). Ference was drafted in the first round, 10th overall, by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1997 Entry Draft.

This guy is such a turd, I'm almost glad he's back in the NHL again so I can watch someone pound that bobblehead noggin of his some more. Should make a decent 7th d-man. Best part of having him back is he'll be in the NW division with Tyler Bouck. They have a rivalry together that goes back to the WHL. Should make some games exciting.

He will help B.Prust at Omaha if Prust doesn't make it to the NHL.
Not everyone likes him but I do and I think he is a good Guy for an AHL Team. He will be a tough Leader.

Ever since Brennan Evans found himself playing in the Conference Finals, it's been a priority of Sutters to make sure he has 8 capable defensemen. Ference is filling in the spots Mush and Hulse held.

I like Ference as a player... but as an enemy with Calgary, I hope he gets his ass kicked day in day out, if he lasts in the NHL.

I used to hate Brad Ference but I learned to like him during his last year with Phoenix. Being on such a pussified team he was the only player that consistantly showed heart and would mix it up when the team was down and out.

I am surprised to learn he was out of the NHL last year.
I think he is a great guy to have around as a fill in d-man. He takes alot of stupid penalties, but Sutter is the right guy to keep that under control.
Great depth pick up by the Flames.

Ference is a prick. He's a giant baby, regardless of if he plays tough, see Brad Isbister water bottle incident. He's not a good blueliner either, I'd be surprised to see him play with any regularity on that team.

I respect the guy cause he does try and he is willing to drop the gloves, but check out the picture of him on the headline story at SLAM. Wow. He looks like an undersized accountant. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL...07326-sun.html

I take personal offence to the accountant reference

My favorite Ference memory is when Mario Lemieux jumped him... I just about died laughing...

Maybe there is hope in Edmonton? Finally, a guy in charge who doesn't believe Lennart Petrell is a legitimate roster player.
