Flames Release Theoren Fleury

Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter announced today that Theoren Fleury has been released from his try-out agreement.

“I believe Theoren did a great job and should be proud, especially considering all the factors including age, time away from the game and lifestyle change,” said Sutter.

“This is not a hockey story; it’s a life story. Our agreement with Theoren was that he had to be one of our top six wingers and there were never any intentions of assigning him to the American Hockey League.”

“I am very thankful to Darryl and the Flames organization for following through on the commitment to provide me with this opportunity,” said Fleury.

“I said in the beginning that no matter what the outcome, this would be a success story. I intend to take the next few days to review this experience and make decisions with my family regarding next steps in my life.”

Twenty-seven players (three goaltenders, 8 defensemen and 16 forwards) remain on the training camp roster.

Awwwwww... I wanted to see if Theo could blow it and get banned again!

Damn it. Would have made the NW division very very very fun to watch if he were still involved.

Fuk your an asshole. The guy comes back after 6 years and going through all his **** and does this well and this is the reaction that you have?

Give me a fukking break. This is a good story and he seemed to do a hell of a job. If the Oilers weren't so damn small up front I would have liked them to take a look at Fleury.

Good on Fleury for doing so well. He may be a useful addition for 1-2 years. This is a good player who competed hard and scored over a 1000 points despite the odds.

And furthermore he was very HUMBLE. with his response:

How in the fuk do you find something wrong with this?

Theo looked good from what I saw in the preseason, I'm actually surprised he didn't make it. I wonder if any other teams might inquire about his services now that he showcased himself.

I hate the little bastard, but it would have been interesting to see him back in the league.

Really? It's a great story, but the guy didn't really have a chance. He had to make top 6 and he wasn't going to beat out one Iginla, Langkow, Jokinen, Bourque or Moss so he had to be better than Dawes and Glencross and both guys have been playing well. Even if it were close, you'd still take either guy over Fleury because you've got a contract with them. Theo had to play amazing, he didn't.

Too bad, I wanted Theo to make it.
By the way his choice of stick and glove brand fits him very well..."Warrior"

1 goal, 1 penalty shot goal and 2 assists in 5 games, if I'm not misstaken...thats not bad at all for a fellow who has been away for such a long time.
Perhaps another team will give him a chance. Not necessarely a team who will rely heavily on him but will try to benefint marketing wise from signing him, due to the fact that Theo is quite the character.

Avery - Donald - Fluery....that would be some line
