Flames Re-Sign Kiprusoff to Multi-Year Deal
Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter announced today the signing of Miikka Kiprusoff to a multi-year contract extension.
“The Calgary Flames ownership group has made a huge commitment to Miikka and we expect him to be a major contributor to the success of our organization for years to come,” said Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter. “With today’s announcement, we have some key players under long term contracts and we look forward to that group leading us to the next level.” Playing in his 4th season with Calgary, Miikka is the franchise leader in shutouts (21) and is approaching his 200th regular season game which ranks him 5th highest in franchise history. “I would like to thank the Calgary Flames owners for making this long term commitment to me and my family so we can remain in this city and be part of this organization,” said Kiprusoff. “I look forward to the responsibility and challenge that comes with this contract. Calgary is a loyal hockey community that expects and deserves the very best from its home team.” Last edited by Thrillhouse; 10-29-2007 at 07:14 PM. |

***k!
I was hoping for some big time drama this season, but since Sutter the Knob went out and re-signed Iginla, Regehr, and Now Kiprusoff to extensions, there won't be any chance of some cool drama in Calgary this season of Ryan Smyth-like proportions. I guess he learned from Lowe's mistakes. There's a lot of money piled up in these Flamers, and I'm convinced they all could have gotten more in the open market. Sutter must have gagged them all with some serious Kool-Aid to sign for these low amounts - especially Kiprusoff, I honestly thought he'd be demanding more. I wonder if that still leaves room to re-sign the likes of Langkow and Husselius? I doubt it, unless Tanguay is traded.

Great job to lock up Kipper long term... as much as I hate seeing it.

Seriously though, I am surprised at the 6 year deal - I've read numerous times that Kiprusoff wanted another 2 or 3 years, then back to Finland. He's uncomfortable in the spotlight and doesn't like all the attention he gets in a small Canadian city like Calgary. There was a chance to might have gone back to Europe for good after this season. In that sense, I am kind of surprised.

If you got good goaltending you will have a good team
without a doubt its was a super decision for Calgary. I think Kipper is one best goalies that has come to Calgary in a long long time.
