Flames Land Fredrik Modin From Atlanta
 

Calgary, AB – The Calgary Flames announced today the acquisition of left wing Fredrik Modin from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for a 7th round draft selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

“In Modin we have added depth to our forward position with a player who has playoff experience, a Stanley Cup championship and both Olympic and World Championships gold medals,” said Flames Acting General Manager Jay Feaster. “He is a player of high character, a great teammate and a great person. I believe you can never have enough people like that in your organization and we are pleased to welcome him and his family to Calgary.”

Modin is a veteran of 14 NHL seasons including the 2003-04 campaign as a member of the Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning. In 894 career NHL games he has recorded 232 goals and 230 assists for 462 points including five 20 plus goal seasons. In 57 career playoff games he has notched 26 points from 14 goals and 12 assists.

In addition to a Stanley Cup title, he was a member of both Sweden's Olympic gold medal team in 2006 and gold medal World Championship club in 1998. Over the course of his NHL career he has played with Toronto, Tampa Bay, Columbus, Los Angeles and Atlanta. The native of Sweden was originally drafted 64th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.

Isn't Sutter gone in Calgary??? WTF? Why bring in another old useless veteran? The Flames are following the Leafs...sign veterans until you have a disaster team and no system with prospects.

Don't get what the Flames are thinking...in one or two years they'll suck big time and be the worst team in the NHL for sure.

Yeah, whats the deal? Feaster spent too much time around Sutter before he was canned I guess, nothing like seeing the trend of acquiring old, brittle, high priced forwards continue in Cattleville. Nice job, Uncle Fester.

Sutter would have coughed up a second or first rounder for him though, so I guess thats the bright side.

I've never really followed Modin, but he has pretty decent numbers in the past. Is he injury prone? I don't know who he will take out of the lineup. I just wish Hagman will light fire, he always killed us with the Stars.

neither in reality... but if i absolutely had to, Kovalev only for the little extra offense he could possibly bring.

I see some sense, Modin is experienced guy and can to score with good role if he gets a good role.
In 3-4 line he is more a useless.
But i say Atlanta won this trade narrowly.
But not dumbest dumb trade either.
Modin is that smart teamplayer.

Freddie spent many many years here in Cols, when he was healthy he was solid , but lots of IR time (glass knees)

Freddy was exactly what was needed in a top 6 forward during the Bolts Cup run, that being said that was 7 years ago, and probably just as many IR stints.

At this stage in his career, he is probably a good checking line winger at best, who over the course of the full season chip in 30 points.

This is as stupid as it gets...Modin has played 153 games since 2007 that's exactly 39 games a season and has scored an average of 15 points...and you really think he can still be a scorer?

He is done for good and I don't get why this guy is still in the NHL.
