I really would have thought that Sutter would try for more than a 3rd rounder. Lydman is a good defenseman but certainly doesn't fit the bill of a Sutter team. Good trade for the Sabres.

But Calgary's defense is still sick:
Leopold Regehr
Warrener Hamrlik
Ference Phaneuf

I think Sutter should have gotten more. I think this was a good deal for Buffalo.

3rd rounder seems about right. Thats what the preds gave up for Markov I believe.

Sutter gave up Commodore for a 3rd rounder earlier this off-season. And I think most teams knew that Lydman was on the block so there must have been a fair bit of interest.

That's why I think 3rd round is a little low.

This move kind of redeems Buffalo for their lack of business savy displayed this off-season to date.

Lydman is not what the Sabres really need, but another d-man is good for them and maybe Lydman and Numminen can form a nice pairing for the Sabres. For a 3rd rounder it was a good deal for Buffalo.
