It has no link. The Club de hockey Canadiens never had that much of a small amount of Quebec born players than under Pierre Gauthier.

We now have two Quebec born players in David Desharnais and Mathieu Darche.

A couple of years before, we had Lapierre, Bouillon, Laraque, Tanguay, Latendresse, Brisebois, Dandenault, and if I want to be an ass, I'd add Marc Denis since he played one game. We were 7 regular players under Bob Gainey (who is from Peterborough, ONTARIO) and we now have 2 regular players under Pierre Gauthier who is from Montreal QUEBEC).

Gtfo with your posts wanting to say that Quebecers are xenophobic and all that stuff.

Question, because I'm not too good with questions related to cap space: if Gomez plays in Hamilton, does that mean that he is not going to take space anymore on our cap space?

Bourque is from Native descent and the Natives over Manitoba and Alberta speak French and a lot have French names. He does speak French. Even if it's irrelevant.

OK I might be missing something here but from what I could gather is that the Flames were barely under the cap as it was and they add what, $2.5-$3M with the acquisition of Cam? More moves?

Hopefully Rene keeps running around with the Habs, especially versus the Bruins.

This trade reeks of desperation from both sides.

I was just thinking the exact same thing - I was just on capgeek but they haven't updated the roster yet - but adding Cammalleri does mean they should be about $3 mil over, but they have suffered through a ton of long term injuries as well, but I can't imagine that would buy them that much relief. Thats why I'm a little surprised its just Bourque headed to Montreal...

Its an interesting trade. Bourque had pretty much played his way off the team with his two suspensions in less than a month, along with lazy and indifferent play. And Cammy did have his best season as a Flame just 3 years ago and could provide a huge spark to the team.

But more important is the big picture for the Flames. This is another short term band-aid solution and proves the rebuild so many fans want here has been put off for at least another 2 years. Uncle Fester and Ken Queen are refusing now more than ever to accept reality and begin what is truly needed in this organization. The trade signifies the team truly believes they can make the playoffs, Iginla, Kippersuck, and J-Bow aren't going anywhere, and chances are we'll keep seeing the exact same mediocre results for at least another 2-3 seasons here in Calgary. It boggles the mind, but this club just refuses the very idea of blowing things up and starting fresh....

But I'm also more shocked that Fester got off his fat ass and actually did something to begin with....

Not sure about their injury statuses but if some guys are on LTIR they can save money there, and by this point majority of the deals are about in half because they are pro rated.

EDIT:
Quote:
After the Cammalleri/Bourque swap, the #NHLHabs could add a cap hit of ~$8.2m at the trade deadline *without* needing any LTI relief.

Don't know if this deal is good for any team. Cammalleri had his best season with the Flames but the Flames should rebuild and not trade for another veteran. Looks like the Flames are not willing to go the route the Oilers go and rebuild with youth. Maybe they just want to do the opposite of their rival?

As for the Habs...Bourque could turn out to be a good addition for them. They definitely need size up front, Bourque has that and he can score, on the other side he has played poorly and with a looser team like the Habs this year he fits in well.

I was surprised the Canadiens played with a short bench in a close game.

Harry Sinden would do something like this to a player. Personally, I saw nothing wrong with what he said, it sounded like the team had been down from losing and he was tired of losing. Sucks that he just built a house that he hasn't moved in to yet. Still, you can't blame the Habs for wanting to change things up and why not start with an under performing overpaid player who talks too much.

I agree with you 100%. This is a tough man's sport, you don't gas a guy for hurting your feelings. That's gayer than a pink speedo.

At least now I can lie to myself and think the Caps will take advantage of a 2nd shot at retaliation for Bourques elbow on Backstrom.

Yup. And there is nothing on Canadiens' side to protect him.

Just a question, where is Ryan White. Not that he is a killer but he will drop the gloves.

Groin injury since september during the training camp. He should be back before the all-stars game.
