Flames Acquire 2005 Third Round Draft Choice From Carolina

Calgary, AB – Calgary Flames General Manager and Head Coach Darryl Sutter announced today the acquisition of a third round draft choice, 69th overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for defenceman Mike Commodore.

The 2005 NHL Entry Draft takes play tomorrow, Saturday, July 30th, in Ottawa, beginning at 10 a.m. MT. It will be broadcast by TSN and RDS in Canada, and streamed live by NHL.com.

I think it has sometihng to do with comments he made during the lockout...

It's because there are too many defensemen for the Flames. Regehr, Leopold, Warriner, Lydman, Ference, Phaneuf and Montador all above Commodore.

This is good news for us Canes fans. I like what I've seen of Commodore. He'll likely make the Top 6 for the Canes, especially if Glen Wesley isn't brought back.

I wouldn't exactly count Hedican as "in" yet also.

But come on, he's probaly every bit as good as Wallin and maybe even Ward. Certainly probaly better than St. Jacques, Rourke, or whoever else....
