Eric Staal Activated From Injured Reserve

RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has activated center Eric Staal from injured reserve. Staal will be eligible to play for the Hurricanes on Wednesday at Anaheim.

Staal, 25, has missed the Hurricanes’ last 10 games after an upper-body injury forced him to leave the team’s game on Nov. 1 against San Jose. The Thunder Bay, Ont., native scored three goals and earned two assists (5 points) in Carolina’s first 13 games of 2009-10, and has totaled 167 goals and 196 assists (363 points) in 422 career NHL regular-season games. Prior to missing the team’s game at Florida on Nov. 4, Staal (6’4”, 215 lbs.) carried a 349 consecutive games-played streak which ranked third-longest among active NHL skaters. Staal’s games-played streak ranks second-longest in Hurricanes franchise history. Carolina drafted Staal in the first round, second overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
