Edmonton Trades Kurtis Foster to Anaheim for Andy Sutton

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have acquired defenceman Andy Sutton from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenceman Kurtis Foster.

Sutton, 36, played in 39 games with the Anaheim Ducks collecting four assists and 140 penalty minutes.

The 6’6”, 245-pound rearguard has played for the San Jose Sharks, Minnesota Wild, Atlanta Thrashers, New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators and Ducks. In 624 career NHL games the London, ON native had 140 points (35G, 105A) and 1,105 penalty minutes.

Sutton, who was undrafted, played four seasons with Michigan Tech of the NCAA collecting 56 points (22G, 34A) in 121 games including his final year where he had 40 points in 38 games.

This deal is complete now.

Sounds like it is official now.

Foster makes 1.8 mil, Sutton 2.25 mil.

Thats another 450K the Ducks can throw at Konopka or another checking line forward.

WOW, the Oilers are going to be tough next season. All they need now is a Mac signing to cap it all off (don't see it happening thou).

I wonder if anyone in the Edmonton media is an expert?

From a playing perspective I'd rather have Foster seems like a pretty wierd deal, Edmonton must have been pretty desperate to get Sutton.

Slightly of topic but does anyone know whats happened to Ranger, can't remeber his first name, plays for Tampa Bay.

Paul Ranger. I don't know what his contract situation is with them, but he left Tampa a couple of years ago on some kind of personal leave and never went back.

If I'm not wrong he would have been a free agent last off season, but as you said he left Tampa because of personal issues and I think he retired from hockey. At least he hasn't returned playing somewhere.

Never found out why he left Tampa.

He was so bad on Edmonton last year that he was a healthy scratch on a team with 4 legit NHL defenseman... It was ridiculous.

I hope he finds his game. He was absolutely brutal.

Sutton is this year's Vandermeer/Strudwick for the Oil.

Hopefully its a good fit for both teams.

Ducks were looking for a right handed shooting d-man to pair with Fowler.

Visnovsky-Lydman
Beauchemin-Sbisa
Fowler-Foster
Brookbank

I like our D.

He quit hockey to go to school at a university in canada.

I look forward to many cheap shots on Vancouver forwards.

Oilers following the "if we can't beat ya..we'll beat ya up" approach. I like it.;)
