Duncan Keith Suspended Five Games

NEW YORK - Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith has been suspended, without pay, for five games for elbowing Vancouver Canucks forward Daniel Sedin during NHL Game #1100 at Chicago on Wednesday, March 21, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Keith will forfeit $149,688.15. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at 13:36 of the first period. Keith was assessed a minor penalty for elbowing on the play.

not surprised and well earned, but kind of disgusted that burrows or sedin didn't get a damn thing.

You're life must be pretty ****ty if you find pleasure in someone getting a concussion

Think it's too low, to be completely honest.

About what you would have expected. There is no consistency, or logic to how they hand out suspensions. Could have been anywhere from 2-7 games, or even an entire playoff series. Move on. Both sides need to move on.

The Canucks have been sleep walking thru most of this season. They have only played a select few games (mainly against Chi, Boston, SJ and Detroit) giving 100%...so this may be the best thing to happen to the team. Forces some emotion into them where they were previously incapable of having any as they wait for the playoffs to start.

As long as Daniel gets back in time for the playoffs, I think this elbow to the melon is exactly what the Doctor ordered. Daniel may disagree.

not even close to ****ty, just thinks it's utterly hypocritical of the nhl to not even review his hit or burrows blatant knee to keith's nuts and this is punishment to him and the nucks for the crap they are getting away with.

i more find pleasure in the fact that the cock sucker is gonna be out for awhile as karma, not specifically the concussion itself. didn't put that in before, my bad.

I didn't think there was anything wrong with Sedin's hit. There was contact with the head, but it was a deliberate, blatant attempt to decapitate Keith like Keith's was on Sedin. Not to mention Sedin hit him with his shoulder.

A bit much, but he did go for the head.
Surprised burrows got nothing for the knee to Keiths junk while on the ice. Perhaps if he had tried to bit his nuts maybe something....

Shanahan concluded Keith has no junk.

No doubt about this one, or, if was deserved.

What he did, in retaliation for an elbow to him, was uncalled for and he should not have put the team or himself in this position.

i heard daniel sedin is out due to a vaginal cramps..... shopping for gucci bags will be fine come playoff time...

in all seriousness 5 games is a bit much i think. the head shot daniel gave out was pretty bad in its self.(elbow + fore-arm) keith had his head down and was blindsided. but hey it is what it is. the canucks seem to be a bit chippier as a result of , so thats a plus.

There was no elbow from Sedin. His shoulder hit Keith's chin. Two years ago, it would have been a perfectly legal hit. Today, it should be a penalty but I don't think it was serious enough to warrant a suspension. Keith's flying elbow likely would have been a suspension any year post lockout.
