I wouldn't pay 2.9 for J.P. Dumont even if I liked the guy.

this makes the Gomez and Briere arbitration look like a steal at $5m per

doubtful they will pick up the tab, and i wouldn't be surprised if alot of teams avoid him like the plague until he lowers his price

The day J.P. Dumont is worth 2.9 million bones is the day the NHL lifts the instigator rule and embraces the enforcer/tough guy as the type of hockey player that packed arenas across the league in the first place...

Wait a minute...

Do the arbitrators follow hockey at all?

I don't even understand where they base these decisions. This one and the York decision are ludicrous. At least Briere and Gomez had good seasons. I mean, Dumont was good, but 3 mill? Give me a break. I'd take him on my team if he lowers his price though.

who would honestly pick dumont up for 2.9 million? just because he got awarded 2.9 mil doesn't mean he isn't gonna have to take a paycut or else he won't be playing.

but he chose to go to arbitration, so he's likely already past accepting an offer from the sabres and letting them win the dollar war

I have no idea either how they get their rulings. These awards are just terrible. JP isnt close to worth $3 million. Anything over $2 million is a stretch. Probably with the raised salary cap, they figure that teams can shovel out more for mediocre (sp) players... my only guess.

This is the worst ruling yet. What a waste of money. I like J.P. but 2.9 yikes.
