Ducks’ Wisniewski Suspended Two Games

TORONTO – Anaheim Ducks defenseman James Wisniewski has been suspended for two games, without pay, for delivering a forearm blow to the head of Phoenix Coyotes forward Shane Doan in NHL game #189, October 31, the National Hockey League announced today.

The incident occurred at 7:12 of the first period. No penalty was assessed on the play.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Wisniewski will forfeit $28,497.40. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Wisniewski will miss Anaheim’s game against Pittsburgh on Tuesday and against Nashville Thursday. He will be eligible to return Saturday against Phoenix.

I saw this and believe this is warranted. Many in the other threads have said they didn't see any infraction. If you slow-mo it it's clear as day.

Watching live I thought it was a clean hit. I still think it was clean, and the appropriate action was taken by all parties except of course the NHL, Wiz stood up and fought twice that game. And the second fight was against Doan. That should have been the only punishment. No suspension is needed, IMO.

Love how he returns against the Yotes. Idk if it was an elbow or not. I lean towards no but i can see how it is called an elbow. However i do like the fact that Doan took matters into his own hands and fought him later on.

oh and i forgot, "JAMES WISNIEWSKI IS THE MAN!" ;-)

Scott Stevens never woulda made it in this new NHL, guy woulda been fined and suspended all the time. Fvckin ridiculous.

Thats exactly what it was. His head hit the ice making it worse. Alot worse hits have gone unpunished this year.

another clean check that someone gets in trouble for because the guy with the puck doesnt know how to keep his head up. fault doan not wiz. bad call

It was an obvious elbow to the head/jaw. No ifs ands or buts. Even if it wasnt intentional, and I don't believe Wiz is a dirty player at all, it was a bad hit. I dont know what foggy/dirty glasses some of you guys look at replays thru but even the Ducks announcers said it was a bad hit and unusual for Wiz. He only fought once but had the guts to stand up and accept the challenge from Doan. I can respect that. Yes, the suspension was warranted compared to others that have been handed out this year, but I like how the teams policed themselves.

When Dave Strader asked Doan about this suspension, Doans response was "It was over when James obliged my invite to fight, we both knew it was over after that, there were no more problems, it ended there, on the ice"

That's good stuff from Doan. But really, I dunno, it was pretty close... the elbow does look to come up a bit, but I've seen a lot worse
