Ducks Sign Travis Green

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed free agent center Travis Green to a one-year contract.

Green, 35 (12/20/70), played in 82 games for Boston last season, collecting 10-12=22 points with 79 penalty minutes (PIM) and a 54.4 face-off win percentage. Green was one of only two Bruins to play in all 82 games, marking the second time in his career that he did not miss a single game.

The 6-2, 200-pound, center spent part of the 1997-98 season and the entire 1998-99 season with Anaheim, recording 18-28=46 points with 97 PIM in 101 games. Green was originally acquired by Anaheim with Doug Houda and Tony Tuzzolino from the New York Islanders for Joe Sacco, J.J. Daigneault and Mark Janssens, Feb. 6, 1998. Anaheim traded Green and their first-round choice in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft (Scott Kelman) to Phoenix for Oleg Tverdovsky, June 26, 1999.

The 14-year NHL veteran has recorded 192-261=453 points with 737 PIM in 939 career games with the New York Islanders, Anaheim, Phoenix, Toronto and Boston. Green was drafted by the New York Islanders in the second round (23rd overall) of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft.

Good pick up by the Ducks. Good veteran presence in the locker room, and is a pretty skilled/gritty kind of guy.

I wonder what he signed for?

didn't really want the Ducks to sign another grinder but I can live with Green signing a 1 year deal.

I would have prefered Konopka as our 4th line center but Green is okay.

Fedoruk-Green-Moen will be a fun line to watch.

i don't really like this signing, sure he's a veteran and he's gritty, but there are more energy player then Travis Green on the market.

Never really liked Green too much. But I give him his props for his grit & faceoff ability. As McDonald19 stated I don't like this move since it could take away from Konopka's playing time.

well Konopka already signed in Russia for this season, but this could take away playing time from Travis Moen as the Ducks have a lot of centers and Green may end up as a 4th line wing.

Wow thanks for the update on Konopka. I didn't know that. I doubt they'd move Green to the wing since he is already an established center with good faceoff skills...

Yeah Green won't be playing anywhere but center. He is one of the better faceoff men in the league.

Maybe every one in ten games he might play "gritty". Not bad on the faceoffs though, as mentioned before.

Never really liked the guy, even when he played in Phx. What a waste of space he was. Good luck to ANA getting him to play.

When he comes to play he can be a valuable bottom 2 line center.

he's a "gutless puke" as one GM refered to him as

None the less, he'll be healthy for every game.
