Ducks sign Steve Montador

http://ducks.freedomblogging.com/200...an-defenseman/

The Ducks plan to announce Friday the signing of veteran defenseman Steve Montador to a one-year contract worth approximately $800,000.

Montador, 28, notched a career-high eight goals and 15 assists, along with 73 penalty minutes and a plus-1 mark, in 73 games for the Florida Panthers last season.

Hey I always liked Montador. Good to see him go to a decent team.

Very underrated, tough, blue liner. He (like I mentioned about Rob Davison) keeps his game very simple, and is very effective in the minutes and role he's used in. Doesn't try to get too cute with the puck, makes that good first pass and is defensively reliable.

Fits the Ducks mold perfectly.

The tough get tougher in this one. Just like Edmonton's signing of Strudwick, a steal of a solid defenseman for a lower than usual price. He had a breakout season last year in terms of offensive production and should fit right in with the Ducks' system.

Montador only gets roughly 1/5th of what Jeff Finger gets paid? I need to have a few words with this guy's agent!

Fantastic signing by the Ducks here. A solid, veteran, tough Dman pick up. It's a real bargain, although I was hoping he'd end up in red and white... but good for Anaheim. Dicks

Id love for Montador to be my team. Hes a good player. Not the best fighter by any means, but DOES fight. loses more than he wins but oh well. Man I pulled up some old fight vids of him. He doesnt do toooo badly but man his balance SUCKS hardcore. Even when hes doing good and winning he gets yanked down and its the end of the fight. Maybe he will improve.

He will probably be paired with Huskins. Schneider will be traded soon.

Niedermayer-Beauchemin
Pronger-O'Donnell
Huskins-Montador

Really good signing by Burke. I can't believe Montador didn't get any offers in the 1.5 to 2 million range with the way money has been thrown around this summer.

Burke is a bit smarter than that. Look at what he says about Lowe and the salary cap. Hes pretty smart with money.

Montador's a good gritty defenseman. Good signing to keep that Anaheim blueline tough.
